Riku Shiro failed the Defense Force entrance exam twice. No extraordinary talent, no monster-slaying bloodline, no reason for the world to remember his name. He cleans up the rubble other people leave behind — and that's fine. He told himself it was fine.
Then a kaiju breach changes everything. Not because he survived it. Plenty of people survive kaiju attacks.
It's what speaks to him afterward that matters.

Now Riku carries something no Defense Force radar can classify — a system that levels him up like a game and a kaiju form that answers to him like it always belonged there. Clean. Instant. Controlled. No struggle, no screaming, no losing himself to the monster within.
Which should be reassuring. It isn't.
Because the system doesn't explain why it chose him. It doesn't explain why his transformation is so effortless when even the strongest kaiju hosts fought for every inch of control. It just gives him missions, watches him bleed through them, and waits.
Riku gets into the Defense Force on his third attempt — unremarkable on paper, invisible in the ranks. He intends to keep it that way. Fight in the shadows. Protect the people the system sends him toward. Prove, even if no one ever knows, that he was always worth something.
But you can't stay invisible forever. Not when you're **No. 0** — the designation that shouldn't exist, the number that comes before everything.
