Tuantuan and Yuanyuan had been taking martial arts classes for six years, starting when they were just five years old. Their great-uncle, who was their mother's teacher, had returned from out of town in 1977 and lived in a big courtyard where the siblings trained regularly. They were already much more proficient than most kids their age, but they never used their skills to bully others.
Their great-uncle strictly forbade it.
Today, seeing their mom in action, the two were in awe of how skilled she was.
Little Siyuan asked curiously, "Why do you learn from your mom's teacher instead of her directly? Isn't Aunt Ming Mei capable of teaching you?"
Yuanyuan explained, "Mom says learning martial arts is hard work. As a mother, she doesn't want to make us suffer, so she can't teach us. But I like learning from Grandpa."
