Zhang Lei's tears kept on falling, was touched by the song. He did not finish singing, there were singers in the background that continued singing in a soft tone. It enhanced the romantic atmosphere. He bent down on one knee. "I may not be perfect but I will do my best to be the right one for you. Zhang Lei I love you with all my being. Will you give me the honor to be yours eternally? Marry me?"
Zhang Lei just smiled while crying with joy and gave her sweetest "Yes!" Li Jei got up and placed the ring on her finger and they shared a passionate kiss. " I Love you Li Jei. My heart only belongs to you" Zhang Lei said while they hugged. He responded with a kiss. They danced while the the band was playing a sweet melody. "There's no running away this time okey?" Li Jei said. Zhang Lei laughed. "When are we going to tell our parents?" She asked. "This weekend we'll invite them for lunch. I'll take care of everything."
After they danced they had a candlelight dinner. They were enjoying the meal and Zhang Lei was still amazed how her fiance prepared everything beautifully for his proposal. "Is this what kept you busy today?" "Yes for the most part. I had a hand from Wung Jun. He lend me one of his in house bands from his club. And his men decorated the place. He said it's his gift for us." "How is he doing by the way? I never heard from him since. Does he have a girlfriend already?"
"Wung Jun owned a chain of restaurants and clubs in City D and here. He is doing good but still single. A lot of women flaunt and offer themselves to him but I think he already has someone in his heart but unable to confess it yet." "Who might that be?" she asked
"I have no clue."
"I hope he will find happiness just like we did." Zhang Lei said. "I hope so too." He added.
"It's already late and its chilly outside the garden we better get inside the house. I don't want you to get sick" Li Jei said.
It was past midnight when they went inside. They both had a warm bath, changed to their night clothes and went to bed. They were too happy that neither of them wanted to sleep yet. They cuddled and kissed. And kissed some more, that the smacking of lips is the only sound that can be heard in the middle of the quiet night.
Back in City D.
Xiu Yeng received a text message from her bestfriend and told her she got engaged to Li Jei. She was happy for her bestfriend. It was seven in the evening and Xiu Yeng was at a bar drinking after a exhausting day at work. She inherited her father's perfumery business. Their family business goes way back to her grandparents who established their brand from their own blood and sweat. Now it became a household name. She accepted the position for her grandfather's sake. She was ordering another two bottles of beer when somebody sat beside her and stopped her from chugging another bottle. "Hey, that's enough beer for tonight." she looked at the man who meddled with what she was doing. "What the heck Wung Jun mind your own business. If you want to drink, drink by yourself. Leave me alone. I am celebrating here." Wung Jun puffed his cheeks. "Celebrating what? For being single forever?" "Shut up. Zhang Lei and Li Jei got engaged."
"I know, I helped my best buddy set up everything for his proposal." "Why didn't you tell me? I should have contributed too for my bestfriend." "FYI they are not here anymore, they live miles away. Luckily I have connections where they are now and helped organized the place. It's not like what we did before when we were still young, we helped them get together at my father's resort. It brought unforgettable memories." He cleared his throat. "Huh unforgettable? It's more of a nightmare to me." Xiu Yeng hissed. "What do you mean nightmare?" "You know what, Wung Jun a dense person like you would never get it. Never." She turned her head side to side...she really is tipsy and more irritated at the guy in front of her.
She developed feelings for him since the time that they shared that accidental kiss ten years ago. But she never admitted it to him. He never did either. Both of them kept on evading their true feelings for each other. She buried her feelings deep down her heart and has no plans to wake it up.
"Madam..." Xiu Yeng's driver approach her, "Sorry for the intrusion, your grand father summoned you to come to his mansion tonight. I believe there will be a very important family meeting. I'll take you there right now.
"Can I go tomorrow?" XiuYeng asked. "Sorry but old master said right now. "Uuugghhhh! Fine lets go."
Xiu Yeng left, to his chagrin. Wung Jun wanted to talk to her more and perhaps strike a real conversation with the woman he longed for all these time.
His mind was interrupted when his phone was beeping. "Hello?" "Son come home immediately we need to talk." "What is this about dad?" He asked. "Just come home and we'll talk." was his dad's stern reply. He did not have a choice but to go home.
He arrived in the mansion after an hour. He noticed that there are laughter and more people present. He approached his father's study and his eyes met hers. His dad and mother are there and sitting across his dad is an old man with a cane and beside is Xiu Yeng and her parents. This is unbelievable. He thought he was just hallucinating but it was really her. She wore the same dress the last time he saw her at the bar an hour ago. "Dad what's going on"? "Ah finally you're here my son. Come sit. He sat beside his dad with a questioning look.
"Son I would like you to meet old master Han and his granddaughter Xiu Yeng. This is your Uncle Roi and Auntie Maggie. He is your grandfather's bestfriend. They had this pact before that if they get married and had a son or daughter, they want them to get married. However, me and Roi are boys so we move to the next generation that is you two. Wung Jun from now on you are betrothed to this beautiful young lady Ms. Xiu Yeng. "What? both of them said at the same time. "Grand pa!" Xiu Yeng whined at her grandpa. "Enough my granddaughter... it's far too long. I have waited long enough I am very old already.. I am sorry but if you keeep on waiting for that bastard who kissed you before to appear again then forget it. He will not come back. You might as well move on. "Grandpa should you mention that now?" She was almost whispering to her grandpa to stop talking about that guy. Because that guy is listening right now actually.
Wung Jun bowed his head and smiled broadly.
"Honey, I think it's time to move on. You are not getting any younger and we want to see our grandchildren before we leave this world. "Can I talk to Xiu Yeng privately?", Wung Jun interrupted. He knew that she is really embarrassed with what her family is saying. This is his way to save and protect his damsel in distress. He stood up and offered his hand to her. She stood up without taking his hand and they both went outside to the patio. Far enough that nobody can hear them talking.
He placed his jacket over her since it is cold. "Here, wear it, it's cold already." "I am fine, I'm not cold." she refused. "Will you please stop shutting me off. And it's cold wear it or you can throw it away I don't care." He said angrily. She did not protest again and wear it. Wung Jun sighed place hands in his pockets. "Is it true, what your grandfather said? "I had to make something up so that he would not bug me about meeting his bestfriend's grandson that he wants me to get married. I did not know that it was you. He did not mention any name but he respected my decision." Xiu Yeng confessed. "Even if it is an alibi are you really waiting for that person to come back?"
She puffed her cheeks, "Heck no, that guy is a phantom. I made him up." She lied. She was trying so hard to cover up her emotions. She swallowed and look at him. They gazed at each other and suddenly he kissed her. At first the kiss was hard, she tried to push him away but he held her head with both his hands and he kissed her softer and gentler. She could not help it but to kiss him back. A tear escaped from her eye while they kissed. She circled her arms on his neck and they continue to deepen their kiss. They stopped to catch some air. He wiped her tears with his thumb. "I love you Xiu Yeng, since that day. I never stopped loving you. But I was a coward, an idiot. I hurt you. I am sorry. I hope I am not too late." "You are a jerk but I love you despite all that." she hit his chest. She could not seem to stop crying but she was happy that finally they confessed what they truly feel. They hugged for a long time.
