Chapter 1 - prologue

On a full moon night, he could see clearly everything beyond the forest borders. He could see the ruins clearly. The trees were burned and colored in black; there was nothing green. The houses were in bad shape, lifeless and cold. There was no light, just darkness.

In the forest, where he lived, there were different kinds of monsters and demons who were his family, his friends, his ally, and everything one could imagine.

.

He was sitting on a branch on the top of a Sequoiadendron, no one could see him, and the darkness shadowed him. The tree, Sequoiadendron, was the biggest large tree in the middle of the forest. It stood two hundred feet above the earth. It was his comfort zone where he can think about everything and watch the unknown world around him.

He looked at the shining moon and could feel the cold breeze caressing his face. The moonlight caressed his face.He closed his eyes and he could hear the symphony that was playing by the wind and the leaves clearly. He listened carefully to the chaotic music that was playing by the leaves the wind and the furthest sounds of the creatures. How he enjoyed the solitude of the black forest! The forest that no human being could walk through without losing their soul, as the forest was cursed; the only ones who can enter it are those who had the permission.

There were birds that were unknown to the humans, monstrous predators, who were his family, his friends, and his comrades. Without them, he would have been dead... He drowned in his own memories. The memories he suppressed within his heart. The only thing he can remember was the time he spent in the black forest. There were times he wished to live with humans, to be part of the human world. But he feared that his powers would burn everything.

He was lost in his thoughts when suddenly, he heard whimpering sounds, he was sure that the sound belonged to humans. But no one had ever come here. He lived in the forest alone for a long time. He hadn't met any human being before. How he wished to meet someone of his kind. Memories of the past tried to break through his walls, but he learned to suppress them.

He felt that something was wrong. A strange feeling squeezed his heart. He listened carefully to the sounds, and then he heard a sudden cry. The cry made him look a thousand ways around him, through the bushes, trees, leaves, and then he caught a glimpse of two figures approaching the borders of the dark forest.

He stood and jumped from tree to tree without making a sound. He stood at the top of a dragon tree. He hid between its branches and leaves. He cannot stay in the ruins. When it was the full moon, the tomb riders always came here looking for items. He couldn't afford being known. Not yet. He should be always hiding here. Being quite, he watched with intense eyes the two strangers.

"Let's put him down here, the monsters will have him."

A large man wearing a mask and a large dark green coat cloak put the crying baby on the ground.

"Let's get out of here," the other man said. He was wearing a dark hooded cape cloak coat and there was a golden symbol embroidered on the left of his coat above his heart.

Aiden watched as the two men walked away.

He waited until they were far away. Then he approached the crying baby. The baby stopped crying when saw him. The little babe had golden eyes and blond hair with a beautiful smile. He picked up the baby and held him. The baby relaxed and settled his head on his shoulder closing his eyes he fell in a deep sleep. The babe was wearing strange clothes. He was wearing a golden labradorite pendant and a moonstone bracelet. He noticed the symbol of a golden bird spreading his wings embroidered with gold and silver on the baby's clothes.

He walked into the forest holding the little angel in his arms. He felt the warmth passing through him. It was a strange feeling for him to hold a creature of his own kind. Feeling the warmth of the sleeping kid in his arm was nostalgic. He closed his eye inhaling the warm scent of cinnamon and flowers. The smell reminded him of his parents. The parents that are no longer with him. He can recall the soft warm hands of his mother, the warm embrace of his father, and the feeling of being safe. As not to forget the feeling he engraved it within his heart.

He held the little angel closer to him and jumped toward the dark forest. After he landed on the ground of his home, he walked slowly toward his tower.

The monsters watched him as he approached them, eyeing the baby on his arms with starving curious eyes. He knew if he abandoned the little baby, he surely will die. To be precise he would be eaten by the creatures.

He looked to them, looking at each one of them with an intense stare. Under his powerful aura, they step back allowing him to pass through. The monsters were curious, seeing Aiden holding a baby, a humane baby above all, one of the same kind of him, made them rethought about what the future had planned for him. They looked at their kid and friend as he went to his tower which was in the middle of the forest.

The tower was dark, but Aiden was used to the darkness; he could walk at ease. He entered the tower. There was on the left of the entrance a table with six chairs, next to it there was a cushion in the middle there were stairs. He walked up the stairs heading to his room which was on the top of the tower. The tower consists of five parts, the entrance which was on the bottom, the second for the meetings and the third which was for his books and the fourth for his bed, and the top for watching.

He opened the door and walked toward his bed which was closer to the window. He put the baby on his bed, lay beside him and covered both of them with a fur blanket. He wondered why they wanted him dead. Why they left him here to die in the monsters den; the black forest. This forest was his home, he knew every inch of it by heart, and he knew every monster's strength and weakness.

He looked at the baby, maybe he no longer would be alone. He always longed for someone to share with them his loneliness.

All the time, he felt like there was someone whispering to him like wind blowing into the air. But, he cannot hear it. He wished if he could uncover this feeling. He felt like there was something waiting for him to rise again.
