Chapter 22 - Chapter Twenty-two: Leanunya

Both Leanunya and Wolferan had fallen into silence as he flew, each in their own thoughts. Leanunya didn't know what he was thinking about but as for herself she was thinking about his words about the difference in killing. She was also thinking about the questions he asked. She couldn't understand his questions but his words about killing had let her see things in a new light.

She had always thought that no matter who was killed it made no difference because no matter who was killed it would leave blood on her hands that wouldn't go away. What he had said had changed her thinking, if she did good by killing then was it the same as just killing? She didn't know and she wanted to know. She thought about asking wolferan as he had answered several of her questions that none had before done for her but he was supposed to be her enemy.

Although, he hadn't turned her in to the king nor really harmed her since he captured her. She didn't know what it all meant, only that she needed to keep her guard up in case things went badly. She wasn't one to trust so easily, especially when that someone had put her in a prison cell. She had to keep up her guard and not let him from making her let her guard down. She didn't want to be taken advantage of or be taken by surprise.

She snapped out of her thoughts as Wolferan started to drift down to the ground and landed in a small clearing in the forest. He then set her down and she looked at him standing. Leanunya looked around and saw no immediate danger but after a bit saw a slight opening under the roots of a nearby tree and sniffed the air catching a musky scent. She took a few steps towards the hole and saw the grass was trampled on and spoke.

"This would not be a good camp for the night." Wolferan looked at her and asked, "Why is that?" She pointed to the hole, "Badger den, I do not want to be attacked in the night by a badger. They are mean and vicious." Wolferan blinked, "You sure it's a badger den or even active?" Leanunya huffed, "I've lived all my life in the woods, if I can't tell between an active den of an animal and a non-active den or even be able to tell what animal lives in it then it's something i have never encountered."

Wolferan nodded softly before he asked, "You've lived your whole life in the woods?" She nodded, "Yes, I've never had a fancy home like you. If I'm not staying at an inn in a town or city then I'm sleeping outside in the forest." Wolferan blinked, "oh ok then. I guess we should find some place else. But, the suns are sinking in the sky."

Leanunya sighed, "It won't take long to find some place to sleep for the night." She rolled her eyes before starting to walk. Wolferan follows,"So you want to walk to find some place to sleep?" She spoke walking, "I can see in the dark so finding a camp even after dark is easy enough." Wolferan spoke, "the dark brings cold and as such we should find camp before then and flying is faster."

Leanunya stopped and looked at him, "ok fine. I forgot you are a Dracion and you get cold easily." He spoke, "You are a cattogn so you should also have issues with the cold." She shook her head, "I have no issues with the cold, could be snowing cold and still wouldn't have an issue even in these clothes."

Wolferan blinked, "thats rare, I had never met a cattogn who had not a single bit of trouble with the cold. Not even those who looked just like a catrina." She shrugged, "I trained." He tilted his head, "trained where?" Leanunya looked at him, "We are wasting time, let's find a camp. If you want a fire before dark; let's get moving."

She changed the subject, not willing to answer him. She was not willing to give away the only place she could escape her wanna be capturers. The forbidden forest had become a sort of safe haven for her. It may be filled with dangers but for her; she could handle the danger and if she really wanted she could settle down there but there were no others there and it could drive a person insane unless they had a goal.

She had started to talk to herself when she had been in the forest for those four first years when she was training. She would only get worse if she really started to live there, she just got too lonely. There was no one else to talk to even for a short while. Even though she was constantly on the move when she wasn't in the forbidden forest, at least she had the opportunity to talk to others while on the road. In the forest there just wasn't that chance as no one ever went there.

Wolferan sighed, "let's go then"

Leanunya nodded and before she could argue he walked over and picked her up. He then took flight. Leanunya grimaced a bit and looked at him before looking down at the ground and looked for a place for them to sleep. She didnt care what happened to him but she did care about what happened to herself. She didn't want to be caught off guard sleeping by any unwanted or surprise predator.

After a while she spotted a spot that looked fine and she pointed it out to wolferan who landed in the small clearing. She then was once again, sat down and she looked around. Finding nothing wrong with the clearing she nodded and sat down with a soft sigh. She was in pain from her broken wing and ribs. She could only hope she could get some sleep during the night.

She looked over to Wolferan who gathered firewood. He didn't go very far though. She wasn't sure if it was due to his magic or if it was due to him not wanting to let her out of his sight. She didn't care though as she just wanted to rest. She was in pain and she knew rest was the best for her currently so she could heal faster.

She looked over as Wolferan built a fire and lit it with his dragon fire. She flicked her tail as he took the bag that had been given to him by his servant before they left that morning off his back. She watched as he opened the leather bag and dug into it before pulling out some dried jerky and fruit. He handed her some and she sniffed it before eating it.

Wolferan ate some as well sitting down by the fire he made. Leanunya ate the food given to her and looked at the fire in thought. She then looked over to Wolferan as he took out a blanket from the bag and held it out for her. She took the blanket with a slight nod before he held out something in his hand for her.

"Here eat this. The healer sent it for you." Leanunya took it and discovered it was a pill and asked, "what's it for?" He explained, "the healer said it's to help you sleep and help with the pain." She asked, "why not tell me before?"

Wolferan spoke, "you seem to be able to handle the pain very well and I forgot about it." Leanunya huffed, "just because I can handle the pain doesn't mean I'm not in pain. Broken ribs hurt as well as a broken wing." Wolferan sighed, "apologies, it's just I've never met someone who could handle pain so well."

Leanunya spoke, "Well when in the forest if you are crying out in pain you'll only bring the predators around. So it's best to stay quiet even when in pain." Wolferan blinked, "Apologies."

Wolferan then fell silent even as she took the pill. It seemed they were two people in two different worlds and as such their common knowledge didn't include what they each knew. He knew several things she didn't know such as magic and city life while she knew more things about the forest. She lay down on her stomach carefully deciding to put it to the back of her mind for the moment in exchange for some well needed rest. Soon without her knowing she had fallen asleep.
