Chapter 24 - Chapter Twenty-four: Leanunya

Leanunya woke to a light drizzle in the morning. She had actually slept the whole night through. She was both daunted by this and excited, she had never slept a whole night through ever since she first went to the forbidden forest. She was feeling well rested. She rarely felt well rested anymore and was glad as she had needed the sleep.

Although she was glad for the rest she disliked waking to rain. It made her already aching broken ribs and wing ache even more, putting her in a foul mood despite her good rest. She stood up and went underneath a nearby tree to get out of the rain. She then looked to wolferan who was still by the now just smoking fire pit digging in his bag.

She looked at him and then looked up at the cloud darkened sky. Although she liked the smell and sounds of rain she rather liked them when she wasn't wet. It seemed like Wolferan wasn't going to stop and let the rain pass overhead so she would be traveling in the rain. This wasn't turning out to be too great of a day. It was wet. Although she could stand the cold and being wet she would prefer to remain dry.

"Here" Wolferan had walked over with some food and a heavy cloak. "I prepared the cloak for you, for when we enter the town but from your looks you don't like the rain so wear it now." Leanunya blinked and nodded, "thanks…"

She took the cloak and food. She carefully put the cloak on but even when being careful she still winced from the pain coming from her broken wing being pressed down by the cloak. Wolferan seemed to see her wince and spoke.

"I'll get you another pain pill if you want it." She looked at him and after a moment nodded, "please.."

She didn't want to be so kind towards him but she did want something to dull the pain. She looked at him as he went back to his bag and she flicked her tail before starting to eat the food given to her. She then looked to wolferan, who came back over to her holding out a pill which she took. She went back to eating the dried jerky and fruit not noticing as he went back to his bag.

She didn't really care what he did so long as he wasn't causing her any harm at the moment. She ate her food and sighed looking at wolferan, who was looking back at her. She flicked her tail looking at him wondering what he wanted but after a few moments he just nodded and stood putting his bag between his wings on his back before speaking.

"Let's go." She nodded and walked over, "ok…" wolferan picked her up and took flight asking her once in the air, "why do you hate the rain?" Leanunya looked at him, "I don't like being wet unless I'm bathing." She actually heard Wolferan chuckle, "is that right? I'll have to remember that." Leanunya huffed and asked, "why?"

Wolferan spoke, "So I don't make the mistake of you liking being wet." She huffed, "I meant why are you asking these random questions? I thought you would ask questions that had to do with those I've killed or such." Wolferan blinked and spoke, "I feel there is no need to ask what I already know besides the only question that I have that has to do with your kills is why did you kill only bad people."

Leanunya frowned, "seriously? You just don't have any questions? Why not?" Wolferan spoke, "I already know how you killed each person. You kill everyone the same way except with those you get into a fight with. You kill them by slitting their throat during the night. I just don't know why and so that is my only question." She looked at him and asked, "why is that important?"

Wolferan spoke, "It is important so I can understand and prevent more from falling into the path of evil if I can help it. Also it helps me determine the kind of punishment the criminal will receive." She blinked, "oh… What if they don't even know the reason they kill?" Wolferan looked at her, "you don't know why you kill?"

Leanunya looked away thinking a moment before answering, "I don't know why I choose to kill bad people. I just do…" Wolferan looked at her and spoke, "Not everyone knows why and that is another reason to determine if what you said before about only killing bad people is true."

Leanunya blinked before looking down, falling silent thinking. She flicked her tail thinking she had lost her mind. She was starting to enjoy talking to him and was losing the guard she had put up. She couldn't understand why she had started to relax her guard when talking to him. Although if she asked something he had always answered it still it made her nervous to let her guard down.

She had told him she didn't know why she killed! She should have never done so even if it was true. If she had just remained silent she wouldn't have let her guard down for that split second and told him such a thing. It frustrated her. She decided she should remain silent as much as she could. She didn't want to reveal something more important in a moment of having her guard down.

She remained silent even as Wolferan flew them to Rynion. She looked down to the ground below wondering where they were now. She then noticed a horse drawn wagon down below stuck in the mud. It looked like the people were pulling on the horses and pushing the wagon from behind.

She spoke up, "there seem to be some folks stuck in the mud. Let's go help them." Wolferan looked at her and followed her gaze, "you want to help them?" She nodded, "they probably won't get out otherwise, There is only an old man, a couple of kids and a few women; they won't have the strength to get out of the mud any time soon."

She didn't get a reply and thought he wasn't going to go and help them. She then noticed Wolferan was headed down towards them which surprised her greatly. Wolferan landed not far from the wagon and sat her down before asking them.

"You folks need a hand?" An Old man who had been pulling on the horses spoke, "we would appreciate the help sir. We got stuck and haven't been able to get out so we could use every hand we can get." Wolferan nodded, "I'll give a helping hand pushing."

Wolferan walked to the back of the wagon to help. Leanunya followed intending to help but was stopped by wolferan. She frowned and glared at him.

"I can help" He looked at her, "You are injured. You just sit there and watch" She pinned her ears, "I can help even if I'm injured, It's just some broken ribs" Wolferan narrowed his eyes at her, "I said no and no arguing."

Leanunya glared at him, not understanding why he would do this. She could still help. It may have caused her some pain but she wanted to help. Although she wanted to help she was left to just watch as Wolferan went and helped push the wagon out of the mud. With His help they managed to get the wagon out of the mud.

It had been her idea to help but he had refused to let her help. Why didn't he let her help? All because she was hurt or because he was afraid of her stealing something from them? It made her want to slap him and call him some unfriendly names. She of course knew better than to as it would only lead to trouble.

She looked over as Wolferan went back over to her. She glared at him even as the old man walked over to them.

The old man spoke, "thank you for your help, I'm not sure when we would have gotten out of that mud otherwise." Wolferan nodded and spoke, "You should thank her, she was the one who said we should help." The old man blinked, "oh well thank you miss for having your father help us."

Leanunya bristled, "he is not my father! How could he even be?!" She then winced from the pain coming from her ribs from shouting. She then heard Wolferan chuckle, "we are friends traveling through." The old man blinked, "Oh my apologies, I just assumed she was your adopted daughter since she is so young." Wolferan spoke, "No she is actually an adult, just looks young."

The old man nodded, "sorry about my mistake then. I'm Thomson. I don't mean to pry but how did your friend get injured?" Wolferan paused, "We got into a fight.." The old man nodded, "must have been a tough beast. Where are you heading? If we are headed in the same direction we could travel together."

Wolferan smiled softly, "We are in a rush so I'll have to decline your offer to travel together but thank you for the offer." The old man nodded, "well then thank you for your help but we should also be on our way; we are headed for my grandsons." Wolferan nodded, "farewell then."
