Chapter 253 - Merchant chapter 238

"Well you'll certainly be occupied for a long time then. I know a six hundred year old man who hasn't achieved that despite actively researching for most of that time." I said with a chuckle.

"Truly? How have they lived so long? Are they cursed like Ozma and I were?" she asked curiously.

I shook my head "None of that. He managed through a certain rampant plague to create a philosophers stone. It can be used to produce the elixir of life that allows the drinker to survive pretty much indefinitely. However it doesn't stop aging, merely slows it. After all this time his body is incredibly fragile but very much alive. Magic from this world has a great many ways to theoretically live forever. You simply have to either pay a certain cost or discover it yourself." I explained honestly.

"Fascinating. So you must use one of these methods yourself correct?" she asked curiously.

"No. The methods I know are..... unacceptable to me. Flawed in one way or another. That or incomplete like the philosophers stone that would need to discover a youth retention method to make fully viable. In truth your immortality is as perfect as anyone could hope for. You do not age, cannot be killed and regenerate from any change in state. Yet never lose your fertility." I say frankly.

"And what do you know of that?" she asked with a narrowing of her eyes.

"You had children, plural, AFTER millions of years. By normal human biological understanding you would have lost your fertility after about fifty to sixty years of age. That is roughly when the average human female runs out of eggs to ovulate. If I had to guess your curse actually lets you regenerate the amount of eggs you had, despite ovulating, that you possessed when you were initially cursed. In other words you could in theory have an infinite amount of children." I said casually.

She tapped her chin thoughtfully at that "I hadn't considered it but now that you've pointed it out I believe you might be correct. Otherwise there should be no way Ozma and I could have had children with me being as old as I was." she said seriously.

"Just so. I imagine it wasn't intentional on the god of lights part however. He likely just considered all the ways you might try and die and baked in that regeneration without realizing this effect existed as well. Surprisingly thorough oddly." I said calmly.

"So if I wasn't so hung up on Ozma I could have populated the world with mages and undone the separation the gods did?" she asked with a frown.

"That depends on whether you having magical children depended on also having a magical partner or not. You only have your children with Ozpin as a reference and he had magic as well. I'd say there's a high chance you could however as I am fairly certain your worlds magic was baked into the original humanities genetics. It was likely why the gods killed all of them instead of just stripping it away. They couldn't." I said honestly.

She paused and thought over that event "I think you are right. I always thought it was supposed to just be a punishment for me inciting the kingdoms of humanity into attacking them. But if they simply couldn't take away the magic of humanity they could only wipe it out so the next iteration didn't have it to begin with. They aren't omnipotent are they?" she asked.

"No. They are powerful and very versatile with their power but they clearly have limits. High ones but limits all the same." I said honestly.

"Are they really gods then? Can you claim that title without omnipotence?" she asked frowning deeply.

"That's a matter of debate actually. There are a few sides to it at that. The first is that as you said only something immortal and all powerful is a true god. Another argument is that it has to be immortal and powerful enough to SEEM omnipotent to count. The brothers fall here. The next is that anything immortal is divine. The next is that gods don't even need to be immortal, just so powerful that there's nothing to rival it. The most powerful thing is a god. The final theory is that all things are a god. That everything that exists is simply an expression of a single being." I say philosophizing on the nature of the divine.

"And what do you believe?" she asked curiously.

"I believe a god is just a powerful being with a limitless lifespan. The Brothers would count as gods still as a result. Doesn't mean I will worship these things though. With the multiverse at my fingers achieving a similar and even greater level of power and immortality is only a matter of time." I say honestly.

"Confident are we?" she said with a slight upturn of her lips.

"So long as I survive long enough? Absolutely. The multiverse is a terrifying place. There are beings in it with power so great they'd be able to eat the twin gods like powerless snacks. It may take me a long time but so long as I survive I can almost guarantee that my own existence will meet and surpass theirs." I say with absolute conviction.
