"Oh? Hello there child. Is this some strange new sorcery?" A smooth male voice spoke from beneath the helm.
"Not exactly. I am a person from a world outside of your own. A merchant of other worlds in fact. Alexander Drake, at your service." I say with a humble bow.
"Well met young Alexander! I am Solaire of Astora. A knight with the curse of the undead on pilgrimage here through Lordran in hopes of finding a sun I can call my own." he said brightly.
"Yes, I know who and what you are. Your world is one of wide renown, though not for reasons many would say constitutes as good for those living there." I said with a nod.
"Is that so? Pray tell, what reason does this world claim fame?" he asked curiously but didn't deny anything.
"The cycle. It's not well known yet but the first flame is impermanent. It ignites, burns brightly for a certain amount of time and then begins fading. Gwyn seeing this and unwilling to allow his bright world to fall back into darkness came up with a plan to stave it off. He used himself as the vessel of the flame. Allowing it to burn on brightly once more with his soul as kindling. This is a stopgap however as now the fire fades once more and so he has chosen to create a successor to his role as kindling. That is what the curse of the undead is. His way to forge one being whose soul could serve as suitable kindling to extend the age of fire." I explained solemnly.
"Infamy then. Renown it may be but not the sort a fellow wants normally." he said with a quiet low voice.
"Quite. I'm afraid theres not much hope for your world. There is however a way out now. Thanks to you connecting to me you now possess various other worlds powers, technologies and spells. Additionally it's possible for the people of your world to be sent to other worlds thus allowing the inhabitants of your world to leave a legacy even as your world slips back into that dark. For a price of course, I am a merchant after all." I say frankly.
"Is there truly no way to preserve the worlds splendor?" he asked hopefully.
"It's not so simple. When the world was first formed from the darkness it was formless, shifting freely and populated with immortal dragons and archtrees. It existed in a state of twilight. Then the first flame erupted for some reason. And with it came disparity. Light, dark. Hot, cold, Life, death. And from this came the first beings. The gods, the lords, the pygmy. They reproduced and multiplied in secret beneath the notice of the dragons while four lord souls were taken from the first flame. Gwyn, Lord of sunlight. Nito, first of the dead. The witch of Izalith, the mother of pyromancers." I paused so he could take that all in.
"And then there was the fourth soul, unique amongst all lord souls as it was not bright but dark. The dark soul, harbinger of the end of fire and the arrival of the rule of dark. A small fragment of this soul exists in every human ever born. Gwyn fearing this power cursed humanity to age and die so the power of the dark soul might never threaten his age of fire. This world you know, it's built off the foundation of the first flame. As the flame fades the disparity shifts towards the dark and the worlds becomes convoluted and broken. The dark soul begins to awaken. He thus devised a devious plan. The curse of undead. Making the bearers of the dark soul continue his age of fire by feeding themselves to the first flame." I finish seriously.
"The curse of the undead, is lord Gwyn's?" he asked with a voice barely above a whisper.
"It is. The moment an undead grows powerful enough to feed the first flame after defeating his burnt husk that guards it even now the curse will vanish like smoke in the wind until the fire fades again. This is the cycle. The fire fades, an undead champion arises and ignites the next start of the cycle." I said with a nod.
"So my sun? Where is it?" he asked with a hint of madness that I chose to fix quickly.
"Why not make it?" I suggested.
"Is that possible?" he asked with a renewed hope.
"Of course. There are a variety of methods across the multiverse capable of it. Though you have to ask yourself a question before any of that. What is a sun?" I say seriously.
"How silly it's a sun of course." he said shaking his head.
"Right, but what exactly does that mean? Is it just a floating ball of light and heat? Is it a giant fusion reactor floating in the void? What is a sun? What answer would satisfy you if you saw it fulfilled?" I pressed.
He paused deep in thought as he really turned it over in his mind. At first glance the question seemed silly but it really wasn't. If it was he wouldn't be searching all over for a "sun" of his own. He had some expectation for what a sun actually was and until he figured out exactly what that was I probably couldn't help him with it.
