Chapter 266 - Merchant chapter 251

Thanks to my [linguist] skill I got a few hints as to the nature of miracles and how they worked during this train ride. Not nearly as much I as I hoped however. I hadn't fully figured out what made a miracle a miracle and not just a story. But there were similarities shared between each one that I was certain held a secret.

'I will require more examples of miracles to figure out if my thoughts are right.' I thought as the train pulled into the Hogsmeade station.

"You can leave your luggage here. The house elves will have it brought up to your room during the feast." I told Luna as she went to pull down her luggage.

"Oh? Okay. Will you be coming along to the castle?" she asked curiously.

"Not this time. First years get a special path to the castle. Second years and beyond take carriages usually. I use special magic though. Try to relax and enjoy the experience." I tell her before elementalizing and shooting across the lake in an instant to arrive at the castle.

I wasn't just showing off though as I had a limited amount of time to get into the chamber of secrets and collect the Basilisk before I'd be required to attend the ceremony. Even after landing outside the castle I didn't stop and fully used my haki to pinpoint the girls bathroom where the chambers entrance resided before scattering myself across the electromagnetic spectrum only to reform there. I walked up to the sink with the snake motif on it and spoke.

"sss-Open-sss" what came out of my lips was in truth a single layered hiss.

The sink with the motif sank into the floor while the cap on the other sinks top lifted up revealing a dark wide pipe vanishing into the dark. With a thought I elementalized again and crossed the entire distance to the secondary door with the the words "Here lies the chamber of secrets, speak descendant and step through.". It also had several metallic snakes on it that served as both locks and keys. I spoke once more and the door opened to the damp slightly chilly chamber beyond. The place wasn't all that grand really as it had rows of serpent statues along the sides with braziers burning with gubraithian flame that illuminated the large statue of Slytherin at the back.-

Bald head, thick wild beard and features that looked perpetually grumpy. He was not a handsome visage to look upon at all. At the foot of the face statue was a pool of water that while not uber deep was too dark to see the bottom of. Not that I needed to as the thing I was here for wasn't in those waters. I approached the edge of the pool and spoke.

"sss-Speak to me Salazar.-sss"

The mouth of the statue groaned as it magically began to open revealing a hollow space behind the stone that a rasping sound came from as the beast of the chamber revealed itself. First the tip of the emerald green snout that a crimson forked tongue flicked out of to taste the air and confirm something before the rest of the head followed.

"Sss-Ah, a new heir at last! Hold still child, let me see you properly.-sss" A surprisingly gentle female voice hissed in the air.

The entire serpent was about thirty feet long and easily three feet in diameter at the thickest with bright emerald scaled. The head was sharp and venomous in shape with a crown of horns coming from it's skull and bright golden eyes that looked at me not like prey but family. I had my haki held over me in case the gaze proved lethal but the great serpents voice only laughed at that.-

"Sss-Be at ease child. My gaze is only lethal if I wish it to be.-sss"

"Sss-I see. You are.... not what I was expecting I admit. Calmer, less murderous.-sss" I admitted.

The serpent ceased it's slow circling at that and I could have sworn a flash of offense flashed across it's gaze.

"Sss-Murderous? Is that what the last heir dared say about me? After he ordered me to do all those things? Hmph!-sss" the snake said deeply aggrieved.

"Sss-So you didn't want to do that stuff?-sss" I asked for clarity.

"Sss-Certainly not. I even tried to discourage it. Attacking fellow students at Hogwarts? Salazar would be infuriated at the idea! I am, unfortunately, bound to obey the commands of the heirs of Salazar.-sss" the great serpent said with a regret filled tone.

"Sss-If I might ask do you know why you are here to begin with? The legends paint a fairly dark image and only you perhaps know the truth.-sss" I asked interested.

"Sss-When I first hatched Salazar bound me to his bloodline and bade me serve them. He also said that should Hogwarts ever come under attack I was to defend it so long as his blood still walked through it's halls. I felt no more of his blood walk these halls after the last fifty years ago and assumed the line had been cut off. Yet here you stand.-sss" the great serpent said with a pleased if slightly confused tone.
