"Harry Potter? Do you by chance mean Harriet Potter? The girl is tragic yes but I don't understand why our entire world would bear her name." Dumbledore said with a confused frown.
"Oh so Harry is female in your world. Not that odd I suppose, it changes a few small things but otherwise the story shouldn't be all that different. As for why your world and my own have that name as it's defining trait is because our worlds were created by someone as a story. Or perhaps the story was created based off our worlds? Multiversal metaphysics chicken versus egg question. Anyways the tale of that singular person was the defining fulcrum of the story and thus what our worlds were named after. Even if they didn't exist there the premise would still stand." I explained.
"That seems rather reductive. Defining an entire world by a single aspect of it that may not even be present." He said seriously.
I shrugged "I don't make the rules. The system calls both our worlds as such so that is their designation. Mine is the standard Harry Potter world with everything being nearly identical to the source material save my own existence. You world is called Harry Potter alternate. Likely because there are details that are wrong, well not wrong but different then the source material. Harry being female is one." I said helplessly.
"There may be more than one?" he asked seriously.
"Oh yes. In theory there can be an almost infinite number of variations. Some obvious others not. So long as the overall shape of the world is within the realm of possibility." I said frankly.
He took a few moment to process that "Focusing on that is clearly a path to madness. Let us instead focus on this merchant business. What, exactly, does it mean for me and my world?" he asked after chasing away the thoughts going down the rabbit hole.
"I'll catch up later Marco. This might take some time." I said to the pirate who nodded and headed back to what he was doing.
I turned my attention back to Dumbledore who was waiting remarkably patiently for how obviously serious he was.
"Would you prefer to have this conversation in your office? Familiar spaces help i'm told." I asked calmly.
"You can come to my world?" He asked with his eyes deepening with worry.
"I'm the owner of this intra-world space. I, alone, can purchase a way into another world i'm connected to from here without the consent of the contact or their proxy. And yes I do mean purchase. There's no such thing as a free trip here. Nor can you be invaded by a force from another world. Not to worry." I said assuringly.
"That is relieving to hear." he said relaxing a little.
"How precisely do I return to my world?" he asked.
I pointed at the open doorway behind him.
"Oh." he muttered with a little embarrassment.
The doorway went to close behind him but I quickly paid for a day pass to his world leaving it open for me to step through before it closed. Looking around I found that very little if anything at all was different from my own version of Dumbledore's office. I took a seat across from his desk calmly as he settled in.
"Tell me everything." he said seriously.
So I did. I explained how trades worked, how the bazaar worked and the various different worlds I was connected to before his. The conversation went on for at least an hour before he looked at the door that was forced open rudely.-
In strolled a tall sallow skinned witch with oily black hair and piercing cold eyes.
"Severa. Is there something you need?" the old man asked the newcomer patiently while I tried not to stare.
'Bloody hell. A genderbent Harry and Snape? Is that a theme in this world?' I wonder idly while those cold eyes scanned me fiercely.
"Who is this? I don't recall any students like this." she said in a cold suspicious tone.
"Alexander Drake, a guest from afar. A pleasure to make your acquaintance." I say calmly.
"From afar where, exactly?" she pressed.
"Enough Severa. He is a guest here at my invitation." Dumbledore said firmly.
"So be it. I was merely coming to inform you the Mandrake restorative draughts are complete and in Madam Pomphrey's hands." she said coldly before storming out of the office.
"It would seem your world might be one heavily genderbent. How novel." I said with an amused look at the old man.
"Genderbent? I am not familiar with the term." he said confused.
"A more precise term would be gender reversed. Your Harry and Snape are both female and I imagine a great many of your other individuals of note also have the opposite gender from my own world." I explained.
"Harold Granger?" he asked.
"Hermione." I replied.
"Ronilda Weasley?"
"Ronald."
"Draconea Malfoy?"
"Draco."
"Goodness it seems you might be right. What a strange and fanciful idea." he said with an amazed sigh.
