A familiar voice, low and deep, suddenly sounded outside the door, making Summer Ford and Esther Shaw turn their heads toward it in unison.
Esther had always known Ethan Laurent would come; seeing him at this moment, she wasn't surprised at all.
She glanced at him lightly, pressed her lips together and smiled.
Summer hadn't expected him to come at all, and even less expected him to blurt something like this out without thinking. She stared at him for quite a while, slightly taken aback.
The "other person" Esther had just mentioned—was it him?
Ethan's gaze skimmed over Esther, then over her, and he walked over to them in a few steps, pulled out the chair between them, and sat down.
Summer awkwardly poured him a glass of red wine and handed the glass to him.
When Ethan took it from her, their fingertips accidentally brushed.
Both of them were wearing rings on that hand; with their hands together, the rings were glaringly conspicuous.
