Thud, thud, thud, one after another.
Summer Ford suddenly panicked.
When she reached the garden, her gaze darted left and right, wanting to cut through a shortcut and get out of here. She had just run to the back gate of the garden, her hand hadn't even touched the iron latch when Ethan Laurent's body suddenly blocked her way.
"Move!" Summer tried to pry his body away. As she reached out, Ethan twisted her wrist, folded her arm and pinned it behind her back.
Summer's hands were restrained; this posture left her completely passive.
"Let go! Get out of the way!" She rammed her body into his chest, trying to push him off. She slammed herself hard into him, but he didn't budge.
Ethan Laurent was very tall, with a lean frame. Not bulky, but there wasn't a single part of him that wasn't solid. His muscles were sharply defined. Standing there blocking Summer, all she felt was like a wall had risen up in front of her, suffocating and oppressive.
