Things were starting to happen in the Demon lands since that new Ambassador came to the City. I heard about a particularly well-received match between the Representative and the Ambassador that went down, and the cheers could be heard far into the distance. The Collesum was something I would not mind joining in myself, but I wanted to keep a low profile.
Which meant keeping my strength hidden. The Demon lands were smart and kept an outlet to gambling in the open. The colosseum was something that brought in gold coins to the city without end, and I could only wish I had gotten in on the action.
But that was not what I was doing now; it was time to deal with Carl a little bit. I needed him to hurt a little, and it was time to do some damage to him. So I emptied my inventory for the first time in a long time and was getting myself ready for some fun.
For the last couple of days, since I broke that toy, I looked for targets. Targets that were competition to my own companies. There was also one more criterion for my chosen targets, and I grinned as night started to fall over the city and I pulled my black cloak over my head. Iwas dressed in skin-tight black dyed armor that made sure that not even a trace of my skin could be seen. A specially made mask, and I tucked my hair into the mask so that not a trace would be left. I even put on damn shoes.
Which was annoying as hell. The annoyance of not feeling my feet directly on the ground was something that still annoyed me. I would step on rocks and stuff from time to time, and if I wasn't used to it, it would be a much bigger problem. Unless they were extremely sharp, they were not an issue.
The clock was to take away any features, and the only thing you could see now was my eyes. My Systems inventory was empty, and it was time to do something fun. It was something I had never done before, and I cannot believe I never thought of doing this in the past.
The System could store boxes, then I could rob large boxes of stuff from people. Like a warehouse. Would I be able to take an entire warehouse at once? No, not unless it was a small warehouse, but I would be able to have my fun, take a bunch of boxes.
With warehouses all over the city, now with The Store locations, which had warehouses that few knew about. So it was time to do something that would make Carl very unhappy. I could only wonder if Carl would suspect me. I bet he would, but would not know how I could do it. This was going to be my declaration of war against him, and I wondered how things would go down.
Shaking errant thoughts out of my head, I slowly stepped out of the alleyways and made my way to the general store. I watched just as the closing manager locked the building, and I walked up to him and stabbed him in the throat as he stepped out the back of the building. I don't know why this manager left through the back of the building into an alleyway instead of the main street, but it made this general store my first target.
The man never even knew what happened to him as the blood coated the wall, and I tossed him aside. Someone would see what happened, but I took the key out of his hand as the blood Spurted in a jet as the man's heart desperately tried to pump blood to the brain. I ignored it and unlocked the door he just locked and entered inside. I was brought to the warehouse area, and I grinned.
Well, look at that, only twenty-three boxes.
It seemed this place was needing a fresh shipment of supplies.
Perfect for tonight.
Tonight was not about the supplies; it was about the message I was sending. I happily picked up the boxes and added them to my inventory before turning around and leaving without another word. I did not want to stay here too long. I quickly exited and ran away. Without even a drop of blood on me, and carrying nothing. I moved to one of my warehouses. The warehouses were not empty, but they were clearly not full either. I quickly emptied my warehouse and put the boxes down in the proper spots.
My people knew that a shipment would come in and that someone else was putting it here tonight. They all just thought it was someone else, and it was one of my 'no one talk about this' boxes. I put down the boxes, and I quickly turned and exited the warehouse, where I suddenly heard a woman scream in pleasure. Her lust-filled cry filled the building and fueled everyone's thoughts as I left the building.
Maybe it would be fun to tease the man who made that woman scream. Someone was having a good night.
Either way, I left and moved toward the next shop, my next target, with a massive grin on my face, and it was time to start having more fun with this.
Moving through the buildings and alleyways, I quickly found my next target, another general store, and it was locked. This time, things were going to get a little louder than the last one. I felt the enchantments binding the door this time, and I pulled out Sophia's knife with a malicious grin and cut down where the lock should be, and felt something break.
I did not like the sudden feeling that hit me. It was not a tracker, but I felt it, and I shoved the door open and gathered a full inventory quickly before I turned to depart. I did not stick around to see what would happen, and I leapt out onto a nearby rooftop before leaping into another alleyway. A moment later, I heard the guards rushing past, and it had not even been five minutes, and they were responding, and I wanted to curse.
"Shit, that is a fast response time," I muttered, and I moved around a corner just as more C-ranked guards ran past. I ducked and moved in the shadows, and I realized something.
Security in the Capital is better than I thought. I remembered the response to the ships being taken years ago, and I understood. This plan was ill-thought-out, and I should have tested the waters more.
I was done for the night, and I was sad I could not have looted more from Carl. Either way, I sent a brief message tonight and wondered how Carl would respond and whether he believed it was me.
