In a small town nestled by the mountains, there lived a population of only 500 people.
One day, a young boy named Allen decided to take a walk to the gas station. The gas station was about three miles away. He had asked his friend to come with him, but his friend didn't want to go.
Instead, his friend offered him his bike.
"Be safe!" his friend shouted as Allen started riding away.
Allen looked back and gave him a thumbs-up.
As he rode down the road, he noticed a girl's bicycle lying on the sidewalk. He stopped, got off his bike, and looked around.
"Is anyone out there?" he called.
There was no answer.
After waiting a moment, Allen shrugged, got back on his bike, and continued toward the gas station.
About half a mile later, he froze.
The same bicycle was sitting on the side of the road ahead of him.
Allen stared at it in disbelief.
"Okay, stop playing around," he said out loud. "I'm just trying to get to the store and go home. If this is your bike, come get it."
"Hey."
The voice came from behind him.
Allen turned and saw a little girl standing there.
For a moment, he felt like he had seen her before, but he couldn't remember where.
"Are you real?" the girl asked.
Allen frowned.
"What kind of question is that?"
The girl looked nervous.
"What year is it?" she asked.
"1987," Allen replied.
The girl's face went pale. Tears filled her eyes.
"Why are you crying?" Allen asked.
The girl looked at him and whispered,
"I was born in 1957."
