Su Man held her phone, staring blankly at the chat window.
Any other woman might suspect Lu Yuwen had grown tired of her, didn't like her anymore, or had his eye on someone else.
But Su Man wouldn't.
She hesitated for only two seconds before suddenly realizing: "He must have been working late last night and, like me, overslept!"
Feeling reassured, Su Man got up, washed up, and had a meal that was closer to lunch than breakfast. By around 11 o'clock, she figured Lu Yuwen should be awake by then, so she called him.
No one answered.
This was even more unusual.
Su Man found it odd. No texts, no answers—what's going on?
Any other woman might have started guessing things again, but not Su Man. She kept calling persistently. On her fourth attempt, the call finally connected—
On the other end of the phone came a man's hoarse voice: "Manman…"
Su Man was startled. "What's wrong with your voice?"
"I have a cold…"
