Chapter 1 - Prequel

The familiar sound of her alarm woke her from the routine slumber, as usual, signaling that it was time to get up and head to school. She groaned whilst rolling over, slapping at her phone with an open palm until the alarm halted. Something downstairs got knocked over, and she sighed before sitting up, checking the time—currently six forty-two in the morning. The noise outside could only be described as untamed chaos by people who thrive on such. Begrudgingly getting up to get ready, the girl grumbled under her breath. Most teens would be happy, no? It was her senior year, she was being allowed to graduate early, and she had a caring family. Well, not to brag, but the girl's life is actually pretty great when it comes to most things. Except for one small, particular thing. The floor of her bedroom shook as if an earthquake was transpiring, and she rushed towards the window, sticking her head out to get a better view of outside, where the meatheads were fighting at the bus stop again. Although there was a bit more to this fight than the regular fist-throwing battles teenagers would usually get up to. She hit the floor, right before a metal lamp post decked her in between her eyes, instead of flying over her and landing with a clatter. Exhaling deeply, she stood back up to yell at the sophomores who'd thrown it. Ah, yes, home sweet home, along with a glorious, peaceful morning. They were a bit different from our ancestors, or at least most of them were. A few generations ago, and by a few, around two hundred fifty years ago, give or take, the first baby was born...different than its fellow man. Then another was born the same way. And then that became the new normal! Ah, what, you ask? Well, whilst our ancestors had people inventing electricity and taming animals, we have people who can call on electricity themselves and turn into wild animals! That's right, people, humans evolved for reasons still unknown and under investigation to the point where we have what most call forces! Or, as those before us called them in comic books, superpowers. Except for-

"Akuma Kaorin, get your butt down here before you're late for school! You know it worries me already that you insisted on going despite the fact you don't have a force, I can't have you being late and in danger of the street sweepers too!"

Exactly. Akuma Kaorin. The first human in almost three hundred years to be born without a force. But while I was once again rushing down the stairs while pulling up my socks and hopping so as not to fall, unbeknownst to me, this morning was destined to be different. In fact, I hadn't even noticed that I didn't have a nightmare for the first time since I could remember my dreams. This was the morning that would change my life. The morning that would change our lives, reconstruct our very beings, and shift all of our views on the world. This was the morning way before any test, way before any introductions, and way before this whole ordeal began. Allow me to take you back in time a bit, to where it all began and how it all started in the first place.
