Emery found Lord Rendry waiting in a small, plainly furnished chamber at the heart of the palace.
The duke was not alone.
A second Supreme stood beside him, studying a map spread across the table. He was lean and silver-haired, with sharp grey eyes that seemed to miss nothing. He did not even look up when Emery entered.
Emery recognized him at once.
He had seen the man once before, standing at the edge of a training field and silently watching the formations drill. Back then, he had been just another Supreme in the distance, someone Emery had no particular reason to pay attention to.
Now, with Dorren's memories at his disposal, he knew considerably more.
His name was Caldor Vance. Among Pardera's military officers, he was known by another title, one they spoke of quietly, almost with reverence.
The Grand Tactician.
