Ezekiel began with the evening routine he had repeated countless times already.
He placed chunks of cleaned raw meat onto the steel tray before crouching down and sliding it beneath the bars through the narrow gap that hadn't reached the floor.
The moment the tray entered the cell, Melisca was already there. She grabbed the meat with both hands and immediately began eating.

He shut the faucet off. Behind him, the only sounds were her quiet growls and the wet tearing of flesh. He turned toward the drainage valve built into the side of the wall. With a firm twist, stagnant water that had gathered inside the cell began flowing through the narrow canal carved into the floor.
