Melisca didn't move toward the refreshments. She simply leaned sideways once more, resting her head upon the back of her hand against the mattress. Her fingers slowly brushed over the back of Ezekiel's hand. A light, absent caress. She watched his sleeping face without speaking.
A month had passed.
Her wounds had healed. She could walk again. She could eat and sleep. But none of it truly mattered. Not until he opened his eyes.
The room fell silent once more after Livius and Maena left.
Melisca remained where she was. Her head rested sideways on the edge of the bed, supported by the back of her hand. Her other hand still held Ezekiel's, her fingertips lazily grazing the back of his hand as she stared at his sleeping face.
Her mind wandered somewhere far away. A knock broke the silence.
"Come in." She didn't even lift her head.
The door opened, and Argon stepped inside. "Luna."
