Chapter 7 - Solo Training

As I pulled the string back, I watched as the black widow spun its web. The darkness around me started to form the arrow that I was about to shoot. I'd been watching her for a few days, learning her weak points. The next time it takes a step, I'd shoot it right in the joint, where there seems to only be a clump of muscles. Its soul will be consumed by the darkness, and it would slowly lose the will to fight. It moved, and I took the shot.

The shot hits the bullseye. The muscle imploded on impact, causing the leg to fall to the ground, completely torn from the rest of the body. It let out an ear splitting screech as a green liquid spurted from the wound. I jumped down from the branch I've been squatting on. At that time, my body had been going through changes. I could run faster, jump higher, see farther, and hear better. I'm healing faster, and my body can handle falls from forty to fifty feet like it's nothing.

These changes have become useful for parkour. With what I can do, jumping from building to building is extremely easy. I land soundlessly on the ground, and bring out Eclipse, my dark scythe. The portal opens seamlessly, the perfect size to fit Eclipse. I toss my bow in, and the portal closes. I took off at a sprint, reaching the widow's web in seconds. One swing of Eclipse, and the web began to collapse.

The black widow and her web crash into the ground. Two more legs broke off upon impact with the ground. Now upside down, with only five legs left, the spider could no longer fight back. It tried to spit its venom on me, but missed by a few feet. I jumped into the air with my scythe raised over my head, and brought it down on the widow's neck. The head hit the ground, green goo leaking out of it. After making sure it was not carrying babies, I cut it open and dug out the rare minerals in its stomach.

I opened my portal and threw the minerals in. I was going to need them later. I took out four more black widows, then called it a night. On my way back home, I saw it. The glimmering light of the white dragon. She was flying overhead, making her way towards the mountains. I hadn't talked to her in a few days, so I wanted to make sure she was safe. I wrapped my cloak around me and entered the shadow realm. I exited at the base of the mountain, and climbed up to the cave.

She was laying down when I walked in. She greeted me with a soft hum, and I was suddenly jumped on from behind.

"Joey!"

"Leo!", I exclaim.

I start spinning around, and Leo finally hops off of my back. Leo is a baby dragon that hatched not that long ago. He looks just like his mom, Luna. I've been helping take care of him while his mom is searching for a safe place to stay, hidden from the rest of the world. So far, she has searched over half the continent. The only place even remotely close to "safe" is an abandoned underwater military base. The building was severely damaged when she found it. When she returned, she told me about it and asked if I could take a look and see if I would be able to repair it.

After inspecting the building, I noticed that there were large dents on the outside of some of the larger parts of the building. It looked like something had tried to get out, and ultimately succeeded on the observation deck. The walls and glass would need to be replaced, but other than that, only small repairs were needed. The first priority would be to create an air bubble around the building. Seeing as this would cause the water level to rise, I put up signs saying that the water level would be higher than normal.

Luna was very happy to hear that I could fix it. I told her that it would be four to five months before being fully operable. I would also be adding a few upgrades to it. It's been a few weeks since then, and I'm starting to think that I'll finish much sooner than I thought. I've started to think of it as a regular training session. My own, secluded training ground. Not even my closest friends know about it.
