Seeing the generals' reactions, Supreme General Tian spoke. "Although things are looking grim, it could have been much worse."
"What could possibly be worse than this?!" Mei Feng exclaimed.
"Many things, actually. The other cities could have doubled down and demanded that Sergeant Yuan become independent. The situation could have easily escalated into war, especially with Ember City. Quite frankly, it's a miracle we managed to return to the city safe and sound."
"With that said, it's not as though we've completely avoided any of those possibilities. We all—well, most of us—agreed to postpone the matter until the next assembly, which has already been scheduled for two years from now."
"That doesn't sound reassuring at all…" Mei Feng sighed.
"It wasn't meant to reassure you," Supreme General Tian said, shaking his head.
"So, what are we going to do from now on? Prepare for war?" Mei Feng asked.
