Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Fugaku's Hollow Victory, and Jin's Backhand Slap

Laughter and chatter filled the air within the Uchiha district.

Following the Konoha Administration's broadcast, Fugaku Uchiha's approval ratings among the Moderates and Neutrals soared to unprecedented heights. They believed their Clan Head's strategy of patient diplomacy had finally paid off. Only the Radicals seethed with furious, biting hatred.

Inside the Clan Head's estate.

Shisui, newly assigned to Fugaku's inner circle by the Hokage, knelt respectfully in the tearoom. "Clan Head, your vision has been validated," Shisui said, his voice earnest. "Under your leadership, the tension between the Uchiha and the village is finally easing. I am prepared to act as your blade to fully unify the clan behind your authority."

Shisui knew the truth. He knew the Hokage was orchestrating this to isolate the Radicals. Yet, he willingly played along. Shisui truly believed that once the radical element—specifically Uchiha Jin—was neutralized, the Uchiha could peacefully integrate into Konoha under Hiruzen's benevolent rule.

"Excellent," Fugaku replied, a rare, genuine smile gracing his stern features. "With you returning to the fold, Shisui, our clan gains immeasurable strength."

Fugaku felt a surge of triumph. He knew he hadn't actually negotiated the withdrawal of the Anbu; he knew he was reaping the rewards of Jin's suicidal confrontation with the Hokage. But rather than feeling ashamed, Fugaku felt validated. 'This is the art of leadership,' Fugaku reasoned internally. 'Jin acted as my unwitting pawn. He applied the pressure, and I, as the recognized authority, claim the political capital. It is a perfect calculation.'

He took a slow sip of his tea, savoring the moment. "The clan's situation is improving. This is a milestone worth celebrating. Shisui, summon all clan members who have awakened the Sharingan to the Naka Shrine immediately. We will hold an assembly tonight."

Fugaku's intention was transparent. He planned to use this sudden wave of popularity to publicly humiliate the Radicals and poach their disillusioned lower-ranking members. Shisui nodded in understanding, bowed deeply, and left to spread the word.

Watching Shisui leave, Fugaku's smile widened. With Konoha's strongest illusionist officially backing him, his grip on the clan was absolute.

However, hidden in the shadows of the estate's corridor, Uchiha Itachi watched the exchange with deep pain and confusion.

As Shisui exited the compound, Itachi silently dropped down from the roof, blocking his path. "Shisui-nii... why are you aligning with him? You know the clan is wrong."

Shisui quickly raised a finger to his lips. He pulled Itachi into a secluded alleyway. "Keep your voice down," Shisui whispered, glancing around. "This is a direct order from Lord Hokage. I am infiltrating Fugaku's faction to manipulate the clan from the inside. My loyalty remains entirely with the Hokage and the village."

Relief washed over Itachi's face. "I understand."

The two exchanged a brief, knowing look before parting ways. Shisui smiled softly to himself. 'I am not walking this dark path alone,' he thought, energized as he went to summon the clan.

While the Moderates and Neutrals eagerly prepared for the celebration, the Radical Faction's headquarters was boiling with rage.

They knew exactly what had happened in the Hokage's office. Jin had briefed them immediately. The fact that Hiruzen had instantly withdrawn the Anbu, only to turn around and publicly credit Fugaku, was a slap in the face.

"It's a blatant lie!" one operative shouted, slamming his fist into a wall. "Fugaku has no leverage! He has nothing!"

Jin raised his hand, silencing the room instantly. "Do not let anger cloud your tactical judgment. Hiruzen Sarutobi wants us to riot. He wants to trigger an internal civil war so we destroy ourselves for him. We will not be led by the nose."

Jin's voice was cold and commanding. "I will take Tekka and a small detachment to attend Fugaku's little victory parade. Elder Setsuna, you have tactical command here. While the clan is distracted at the shrine, initiate Phase One of the consolidation plan."

Jin pointed to a map of the district. "Mandatory relocation. Every member affiliated with the Radical Faction—civilian or shinobi—is to pack their essentials and relocate to the residential blocks immediately surrounding my compound. Reorganize the patrol units into three eight-hour shifts. Establish overlapping 24-hour security perimeters. Set up hidden sentries at every chokepoint. Move quietly. Am I understood?"

"Understood, Jin-sama!" the operatives responded in unison.

Jin's logic was flawless, his strategy proactive. While the Moderates celebrated a fake victory, Jin was physically consolidating his forces, creating a fortified militarized zone within the Uchiha district that Fugaku could not penetrate.

Thirty minutes later, the Naka Shrine was packed. The atmosphere was festive, almost like a New Year's celebration.

That is, until Jin and his small Radical detachment walked through the heavy wooden doors. The chatter died instantly. The Moderates and Neutrals frowned, their distaste for Jin's extreme methods evident. In their eyes, Jin was a madman actively trying to ruin their newly won peace.

Fugaku sat at the head of the assembly, wearing an infuriatingly smug smile. "Ah, Jin. You've arrived. Please, take your seats. Today is a joyous day. There will be no arguments, only celebration."

Immediately, a few Moderates—clearly planted by Fugaku to steer the narrative—began speaking loudly.

"Under Clan Head Fugaku's wise leadership, we have finally broken the ice with Konoha!"

"His diplomatic patience has yielded real results!"

The implication was heavy-handed:'Fugaku is the true leader, and the Radicals should surrender.'

The Radical operatives standing behind Jin couldn't hold back.

"Bullshit!" Uchiha Tekka spat, stepping forward. "Is this really Fugaku's achievement? The siege was lifted literal minutes after Jin-sama confronted the Hokage Council! What does that have to do with your 'diplomacy'?"

Another Radical sneered. "Such a convenient coincidence, isn't it? Our Clan Head does nothing for years, but the second Jin-sama forces Konoha to retreat, Fugaku suddenly takes all the credit! How thick is your skin, Fugaku?"

"Can't you idiots see this is a transparent political ploy by the Hokage to divide us?" a third Radical shouted at the crowd. "You celebrate a lie while acting like fools!"

The shrine erupted into murmurs.

The Neutrals, while disliking the Radicals' aggression, were not stupid. They began doing the math. The timing 'was' incredibly suspicious. Fugaku had achieved nothing for nearly a decade; why would Konoha suddenly reward him now, on the exact day Jin seized power? Doubt began to creep into their eyes as they looked at their Clan Head.

Fugaku's face flushed dark red. His grand celebration was crumbling. He opened his mouth to formulate a defensive counter-argument, preparing to reassert his authority.

Before Fugaku could speak a single word, Jin calmly raised his hand, cutting through the noise.

"Enough," Jin said, his voice quiet but carrying absolute authority. The Radicals instantly fell silent.

Jin looked directly at Fugaku, his expression one of profound, insulting pity. "Silence your complaints, my men. Fugaku is the official Clan Head of the Uchiha. What does a trivial piece of credit matter? If our Clan Head is so utterly desperate for a victory that he needs to claim mine as his own... then let him have it. It is a small price to pay for his fragile pride."

Jin stood tall, radiating an aura of detached magnanimity. By loudly and publicly "giving" Fugaku the credit out of pity, Jin completely invalidated the victory. He didn't just expose Fugaku's lie; he framed Fugaku as a pathetic, incompetent figurehead begging for scraps from his subordinates.
