Tessa Caldwell really doesn't understand why Faye has sought her out again.
They had clearly agreed before to forget each other and not to disturb each other's lives anymore, so why again... Can she indulge in the fantasy that Faye has come to her because he's realized he's fallen in love with her?
Can she maybe probe a little, perhaps by asking about his grandfather?
Faye must know that Kelly had come to see her, yet he says nothing. Since he isn't speaking, she can ask. So the first thing she does after being discharged and coming home is to ask him, "You have a grandfather, right?"
Faye lifts his face to look at her and nods, "Yes."
Their eyes meet, and Tessa instinctively looks away. She feels a bit guilty, afraid that Faye will see through her and uncover everything she's remembered.
