Chuck glanced at the people around him. The individuals near him seemed to share a kind of military-like understanding.
In just a moment, the people around them quietly dispersed, leaving only him and Tessa Caldwell within a few meters.
He asked again, "When did you arrive?"
Tessa couldn't tell if it was an illusion, but Chuck's tone sounded very familiar. Although they had only met once, he seemed so natural, which felt a bit strange to her. She cautiously replied, "I just got here today."
Chuck asked once more, "Where are you staying?"
Tessa answered again, "At a youth hostel."
Feeling a bit interrogated, Tessa started to feel uneasy all over. She giggled and tried to stand up saying, "Let's see if the boss's dish is ready."
But Chuck said, "There's an empty room facing the street upfront. Why don't you stay there?"
It felt like he was issuing orders, but was it meant as a question?
"What do you take me for?" Tessa stared at him, utterly shocked.
