The Joey family sat in a bright office, listening to the insurance manager talk about something that seemed like they had heard not long ago, feeling a bit dazed.
Joey's mother reached out again to take two fruit candies from the attractive glass dish on the table, unwrapped one and put it in her mouth, then slipped the other into her pocket.
She had already hidden three candies and thought she could hide a few more.
Although she didn't quite understand why the father and son didn't look happy even though the interview was successful, she felt that it was probably a good thing.
The sales manager had actually noticed the woman's little actions long ago, but he didn't point them out or think anything bad of it. After all, it was just some worthless fruit candy. Compared to his business commission... even if he gave this whole bowl to this family, he wouldn't feel a pang.
