The devouring power of Gluttony ate up the power of Sloth.
But at the same time, the power of Sloth was making lazy the power that devoured.
Two opposing powers clashed at the center of the cavern, neither exploding nor collapsing, but grinding against one another in a grotesque stalemate. The black gravity of the devouring force churned and pulled, trying to erase the gray haze that poured endlessly from the Sloth Cardinal's body. Yet the haze did not flee. It clung. It coated the edges of the devouring pull like damp ash smothering flame, slowing its rotation, dulling its hunger.
Gluttony wanted to consume. And the power of Sloth was making the great hunger too bothered to eat!
The conflict weakened both powers and this was more than enough for Emeros!
Emeros forced his body forward, boots dragging as if the ground itself had grown hands that clung to his ankles. Every step felt pointless. Every breath felt unnecessary.
