The outbuildings, storehouses, granaries, a mill whose waterwheel turned in the stream that ran behind the northern structures, the longhouses for the permanent farm workers, were organized in the pattern that reflected the accumulated agricultural knowledge of a family that had managed this land for a hundred and twenty years.
