Lucky 446
"Thank you, retired lieutenant Busbus Balubus."
The three, Lucky T. Tiko, Lou Viola, and Oni Chichi ended up interviewing a veteran
"Nah, it's just a small matter."
The old man waved his hand. He was a resident of the border. He was a first responder despite being retired. Perhaps he knew how dangerous it was if the border had fallen. So he wanted to help the military even just a little.
"Oh, by the way, thank you for your service." Oni Chichi said it with respect.
"..." The veteran didn't know how to react.
"..." Even Calix was speechless.
Many soldiers didn't like hearing this kind of half-assed compliment. Yet the veteran could see that Oni Chichi was sincere so he didn't bother correcting her.
The statement "Thank you for your service" was respected back then. But people started using it whenever they meet soldiers and the meaning of the sentence was getting bleak.
So soldiers didn't like the sentence, especially when they experienced the horror of war. The half-hearted "thank you for your service" lost its purpose.
"We just finished our assignment today. How about we continue tomorrow, it's late anyway."
Oni Chichi suggested. Today was their first night at the border. They just came here earlier. To be honest, they were a bit tired from the travel.
"That's fine with me."
Calix and Lou agreed. They wanted to take a rest.
Calix went to his dormitory while the girls went to theirs. This was a field trip. Obviously, the two genders should stay in different dormitories. They were here to learn, not to play around.
Calix reached his room and found his friends in the room. The room was the usual military style with double beds. Up to four people could sleep in the room.
"Hey, Calix! Why are you working hard? It's just the start of the field trip, why are you starting to interview the veterans? Dude, it's better to rest first."
Quandale Dingle dabbed Calix.
"I can't help it. Oni Chichi and Lou Viola wanted to finish the task as soon as possible."
"Well, that's what you get for being a member of the geek squad." One of his friends added.
"Bro, you shouldn't say it like that. They are hardworking people."
"My bad, my bad. Anyway, when are you going to talk about your relationship with Shoujo? I believe you have a video, right? Show it to us. I promise I won't tell."
"Nope. I'm not going to show a damn video, never."
"Sigh. Okay fine. It's unfortunate that Shoujo Ramune is not with us. She didn't take History class this semester."
The four started talking about stuff. Mostly related to games and girls.
Men's talk usually only has three moods. The funny humorous one, the horny one, and the depressing one.
Their first conversation was about funny things related to games and such. The second topic was about their sexy classmates. They were specifically talking about their busy sizes.
The last and most relatable one was about talking about the future and much depressing stuff.
"Man, I'm scared to grow up. I know how hard it is for men to join society. Once college life ended, I will work in a company and be depressed my whole life. Maybe I will meet a cute girl but that's probably impossible. No one will look at me and tell me that I'm handsome. The only way to attract a female is by being rich. No one respects a good honest man these days."
That was a bit heavy.
"You have it better... Me? I'm probably going to die a virgin. I never had a minute-long conversation with a woman... I'm afraid of women. Back when I was in high school, I confessed to my crush... she told me that I deserve to die instead. She said that an ugly guy like me didn't deserve a bad bitch like her."
Quandale Dingle told his experience.
"Perhaps the only one who had it better is you, Lucky."
"Yeah, I'm jealous of you."
"Master Lucky! Teach me the rizz!"
"..."
Calix sighed. He didn't have it better. His high school was the most depressing part of his life.
"Guys, I'm just the same as you. I was bullied in high school. I was beaten by thugs. Even the upper-class School Belle almost killed me."
"Really?"
"I'm serious."
"Wow... So we all have a bad experience."
"Hey, let's not forget that Calix fucking the most beautiful student in our university! That's not fair!"
"That's right! How can you do this to us, Lucky? Break up with Shoujo and we will let you leave!"
They started protesting.
"These bastards..."
Calix sighed. He knew that they were joking. Real friends would never let each other be sad.
"Let's talk about another topic. I don't want to talk about the future, because I know that my life will not be worth it."
Neither did they know, the whole border would be in disaster a few hours later... Sadly, most of Calix's friends would die.
These young didn't expect that their lives would end just like that. Even Fate didn't respect them.
-- Knock knock.
The four stopped talking when they heard someone knocking.
"Maybe it's our other friends from the next room."
"Maybe. I heard one of them brought a Martini."
"Bro, how did it pass the screening?"
"I don't know, maybe he stuck in his ass?"
"..."
Calix didn't bother talking to them. He stood up and opened the door.
"Oni? What are you doing here? I thought girls are not allowed in men's dormitories?"
"I sneak in. Calix, I want to talk to you about our project. Lou passed me the massage because she was tired."
Calix knew that Lou was pregnant and she usually slept early.
"Okay. Guys, I'm going for a walk."
He told his friends and they made fun of him.
"Yeah, make sure to use a condom. I heard that geeks are freaky."
"Fuck off."
"Haha!"
Calix and Oni went out of the dormitory. It was strange because the guards were gone.
"Anyway, how about we go to the wall? I know a secret path."
"... Okay."
Calix was skeptical but he decided to follow her.
