The memory of the moment Mervyn had finally accepted Oliver's offer came rushing back.
"What does Ryley want in return?" he had asked.
Oliver's gaze had sharpened.
"Since the incident in Berlin, Madam Beckett's travel log has been accessible only to the Sovereign. Not even the Grand Viceroy or the Commander can access it."
He paused.
"But Young Master Morgan can."
Mervyn had frowned.
"He's the Regent, after all. His biometrics are registered as one of the access keys."
Mervyn had narrowed his eyes.
He had never even known that Madam Beckett's travel log had since been made a privileged record, sealed under sovereign clearance and hidden from all but the highest authority.
Almost instinctively, he glanced at Alfie.
The color had already drained from the head butler's face.
Clearly, Alfie had known nothing about it either.
Mervyn opened his mouth, ready to demand an explanation.
But Oliver beat him to it.
