With everything said and done the realization that the bird creature was still alive shocked the students and Niles a bit due to him not checking thinking it had already died but yet still held on to its last breath trying to take one of us down.
Buren looked at everyone then at the students and began to reprimand them " You guys did poorly in front of the lord as you should have been able to swiftly take out the creature without injury"
"I mean just look at yourselves if it weren't for Lord Niles fairy flower you guys would have to be sent home immediately and only from one opponent"
"You have to adapt, learn and always keep moving to avoid being hit because you have to know we aren't knights with aura and fancy armour or one of those beastmen with a durable body that can withstand fatal blows, we are living breathing humans and if you don't want to be living do the same thing again next time"
"I just hope you learnt your lessons as this was just one of them imagine a 2 or even a group ganging up on you"
Everyone of the students here frowned at the possibility of not taking these into consideration as they only fought like this due to Buren and their Lord Niles being there which was a mixture of them wanting to show off their battle prowess and impress their Niles.
They blushed a bit due to the scolding looking downwards at their feet.
Buren was upset but he wasn't reprimanding, he was just trying to guide them from not dying because he knows that even with all the physical training we do we are regular humans who can't compare to those with inhuman strength or mystical powers.
Buren continued his final remark " But you guys did succeed in bringing it down though without much training on knowing what it is, its attack patterns or how it thinks, so you did well enough but you all still have ways to go".
Niles was impressed by them but it was true as he didn't know this species of magic beast in the guide, making what Nuera says is true about unknown species not being recorded unless widely known or documented.
Niles then thought ' If this is just entering the periphery of the forest what would be found deeper , new plants ,new animals and probably a way out of this predicament'
After all the scolding Niles moved on and wanted to understand what this creature is and what are its features from its physical characteristics .
Niles then went forward to study the corpse and through a 15 minute investigation he found out that the bird had features of a hawk with special eyes, its beak was tough , extremely tough to the point it matched steel and with jagged shape was made to injure live prey.
The claws on were sharp and the wings were massive and feathers felt so soft then finally when Niles touched it's stomach area he noticed that it was extremely hard which he then unload a cube on his belt which transformed into a knife then cut if open seeing pieces of the bulbous seeds it shot at them.
Niles then continued exploring the corpse and found a rough object inside and then plucked it out which he discovered was a mana core.
It had a green translucent look to it and was about the size of his hand which fascinated him as he never saw any of these cores when he was looking through the spoils of the meat from the serrated blood wolves.
He was about to condense the core to hang on his belt when it basically started cracking which Niles immediately stopped and decided not to use his storage ability as it would shatter the core for some reason.
After this though, Niles used his analysis ability and found out the bird was non-toxic so he decided that it would serve as a great meal when they made camp after going a bit further until they found a clearing.
Everyone began to move out after loading up the pieces of the bird on the way Niles talked to Nuera.
'It's just as you said not everything is recorded, which means we have a chance to discover new materials, magic beasts, herbs and things that can help in the experiments to further improve everyone's lives in the settlement'
(Truly this could be what can break us out of our current predicament, as this forest although dangerous could be a blessing in disguise of when Wavel dropped you here)
(You could even say this is the best start for you as long as you can extract and use the materials provided by this forest especially if you clear the land with no neighbouring territories you can expand your territory as much as you want and be hidden from prying eyes)
Nuera saying these things was thinking in line with Niles truly having such resources are the key for prosperity and all we need to do is be the ones that were ruling this area.
Niles continued walking with the other in imagining having a peaceful life with no worries and a beautiful kingdom of his own
They finally arrived at a clearing and we started making camp and cut down some shrubbery to make more room , as well as we used the wagon to block the back area of the encampment using the shrubbery to make a makeshift wall to hide from oncoming enemies in case.
When we finally settled everyone was talking with each other while Niles was in thought about the fight and understanding how different everyone is from him now as since he became a god.
It was like growing wings and flying without knowing how it even happened. What was the only common thing is that we lived similar lives allowing them to relate to each other and seeing the smile on everyone's faces makes me wish it was me back then on earth that had that type of smile.
Niles knew those thoughts should stay in the past so he decided that he should make his future grand then Buren then asked Niles a question " Lord I apologize if I seem intrusive but what are we doing out here , as I know it is to explore and collect some samples but I'm sure there's more to it than that after all, we could have waited to the rest of people came back to form a larger group"
Niles awoke from his thoughts then said to Buren " It's just as you said we are out here to get samples so we can know the next course of actions to expand and claim more of the forest for ourselves"
Niles then continued " We need to have a growing supply of meat and hunting can only go so far so we need animals for the farm as do we need to know what can be eaten , what's dangerous but how the hierarchy of this area is split up among animal groups for the magic beasts"
"We need to map every inch of this place if we want to take over but most of all we need to be able to grow fast enough so people think twice before even contemplating trying to hunt us down"
Buren was happy with Niles answer and knew he had everyone's best interests at heart, especially from the amazing creations he built and showed everyone to use, allowing us to do things that would take us months to only days to complete.
"I understand my Lord" Buren replied back but then Niles sighed as he continued " But in all honesty the real reason is looking for something to give us the power to protect ourselves from those who would cause us harm"
"As you've said before people hunt you down do to your natural state and describe you as the plague and worse yet even if you can fight just like you did to that bird creature its highly likely you would need a more people to handle larger , stronger magic beasts"
Buren then said quickly and resolutely " But I'm sure lord you'll be able to create things that will allow us to exceed our limits" Niles then looked down and then looked up towards Buren and the others that weren't listening but having their own conversations with each other"
" That's not the reason why I'm really worried it's the other humans I'm mainly afraid of"
"Most beasts can't think or are easy to get caught in emotions but humans we're smarter than that especially when we try to take something down our creation to destruction quotient is in the destruction range when we are ready"
" Especially as we've seen before what the bird did you can imagine what others humans would be able to do through their experience"
Buren then nodded and continued listening " The worse is that they can train to reach a level similar to yourselves although not perfectly balanced and able to not bear hidden injuries that could flare up in the future, mana, aura and the like make up for that allowing them to exceed this beyond comprehension"
" So the real reason we are out here is to discover something that will allow all of you to be able to break this limit and go toe toe with them one on one instead of trying to use tactics and group siege method after all overwhelming strength trumps everything"
Buren looked a little saddened then asked " Then what should we do Lord, many of our parents died for us to live to this day, some used to talk about one day things will change and we believe you are the one capable of doing this, but as you said we are normal and most likely worse off but we will follow you to death if we have to as you've given us something to hope for a future"
Niles then smiled while Buren was staring into the crackling flames " I do believe something will work out for you guys and I will do my best to make it happen as I know that something from this trip will allow us a chance as even though strength can overwhelm many things if you time your strategies just right even they will yield before your feet just imagine"
Hearing these, Buren smiled and the students were listening to the conversation enthusiastically. After all they have is hope that allowed them to reach this point in their lives.
As this was happening my ears perked up hearing something heading our way as I put my head to the ground and signaled everyone to be quiet. Niles heard 3 things running this way, no four as the thing was running, maybe chasing the other three to our encampment.
