"An omega," the rogue finished, the word falling heavy and dangerous between them.
The world seemed to tilt.
For a split second, nothing moved.
Then Aleksandr's fury ignited and his wolf threatened to break free, to end this mongrel who dared to even think of his mate.
It wasn't loud, not at first. It burned low and deep, a dangerous, coiled thing. His claws sank into the ground on either side of the rogue's throat, close enough to end him in a single motion.
"You will not speak of him," Aleksandr said, each word lethal, barely controlled.
The rogue only smirked faintly, even as his breath hitched. "Too late, Alpha."
The air thickened, charged with something volatile, ready to snap.
And then, suddenly-
"Sasha!"
The shout tore through the clearing, urgent, panicked. Maxim, one of the fastest pack messengers, burst through the treeline, chest heaving, eyes wide with alarm. Maxim, who had not come to the trip with them, who was supposed to be in Mologa.
"Alpha, you're needed now!"
Aleksandr didn't move.
Max skidded to a halt, voice breaking as he forced the words out, "It's the pack, back home, something's wrong. There's been another...incident."
Silence crashed down.
Chaos. Everywhere.
The wolves were already on edge because of the rogues but this news thrust them into further outrage. Aleksandr's own rage further fueled the pack's emotions and their eyes started gleaming, their claws lengthening as their wolves demanded to be set free to fight against the danger, to protect their own.
Aleksandr let out a roar to subdue the frenzied wolves and make them heed his commands. Many of them had already fully shifted into wolves, so he used the pack's mind link to communicate, ensuring the rogues couldn't overhear and remained in the dark.
This left Leo at a disadvantage though, since he wasn't yet officially a member of the pack and thus couldn't access the mind link.
He gestured Vlad to take over and pin down the rogue again as he moved towards his mate, silently reassuring him.
"Volki iz stai Krasnogo Klyka, bratya, govorit vash Alfa Darkov. Spokoyno uspokoytes' i prislushaytes' k moyemu golosu." Aleksandr commanded in the native language.
Wolves of the Red Fang pack, brethren, this is your Alpha Darkov speaking. Still yourselves and pay heed to my voice.
Aleksandr continued, "Gather your belongings and whatever you've brought with you, only so much as it doesn't slow you down. We leave tonight for Mologa. You all heard Maxim, but there's no need to unnecessarily rage or panic right now. We are far from the outskirts of the city and even further from home. We have no time to waste as we make haste. Let the night pass as you scent-mark and look out for each other."
"Tie up the hands, legs and snouts of all the rogues and dump them in that jeep we brought for supplies. Maxim can drive them as he must have ran a lot tonight. Looks like we'll give them a proper treatment back in Mologa."
Aleksandr finished his instructions as he reached his mate. His Beta and the others moved at once, carrying out his orders without hesitation.
Aleksandr could smell that Leo was scared but his face betrayed nothing. Leo just looked at him patiently, as if waiting to be informed of the next step.
"Are you okay?" He asked and Aleksandr released a sigh of relief.
He pulled Leo in his arms and slumped, all the tension of the past hour leaving his body. Leo hugged him back tightly, instantly offering comfort even though seeing Aleksandr lose his temper like that amidst all the shouting and growling must have been scary for him.
Especially since he had never seen or faced any conflict, growing up. It didn't go past Aleksandr's notice that despite all that, Leo's first question had been about his safety.
Truly, Sasha was one lucky bastard, he thought.
"I'm fine. Are you okay?"
Lev nodded silently.
"I'm sorry the rogue found out about you. I wanted to slit his throat the instant he inhaled your scent." Aleksandr's eyes once again gleamed with fury.
But Leo's next words calmed him down.
"I'm glad you didn't. We might need him in the future for information."
Leo's bright intelligent eyes were steady and his voice composed. At least someone was thinking clearly.
"You're right." Aleksandr took a deep breath and asked the question he was dreading. "Will you come to Mologa with me?"
Before Leo could speak, Aleksandr rambled further, "Something terrible has happened, and as uneasy as I am about the whole situation back home, as Alpha I have to be there. My pack needs me. And the whole situation is going to be one terrible mess but I need to go and make sense of it."
Aleksandr paused, then said the next words from his heart.
"However, I know I cannot bear to part with you. Not right now. Not when things are already so tense and now that damn rogue also knows about you. I remember you said you don't wanna move to Mologa and it's understandable you might be worried about your university and more so about going to a strange place where things are not amiable right now. But you have to know, Lev, moy lyubimyy kotyonok, I will never let any harm come to you. Nothing will be able to touch you since I will be there to protect you. Always."
Aleksandr's felt Leo's arms tightening around his torso.
"Sasha, ya tebe veryu. Ya tebe doveryayu. Ya poyedu s toboy v Mologu. Poydyom domoy, moy istinnyy."
Sasha, I believe you. I trust you. I'll go to Mologa with you. Let's go home, mate.
His mate's words settled deep within Aleksandr, silencing the storm raging beneath his skin.
"Moy Luna."
My Luna.
Sasha replied as he kissed Lev.
