The next morning at SIMS began with the kind of calm that only existed for a very brief while before the day remembered it was medical school.
Ren had barely stepped into the corridor outside the lecture hall when a few students standing nearby instantly straightened themselves. A couple of them looked as though they had been caught stealing, although Ren had no idea what they could possibly have done. Fang, walking beside him with a tray in one hand and a sheaf of papers in the other, noticed the reactions immediately and gave Ren a brief, knowing glance.
"You are doing it again," Fang murmured.
Ren blinked. "Doing what?"
"Looking as if you are about to apologise for existing."
Ren's expression became very serious. "That is a harsh accusation, my big darling. I do not apologise for existing. I am far too confident for that."
Fang nearly smiled. "Then perhaps you are merely looking too approachable."
Ren looked offended. "I cannot help that. It is a gift."
