Chapter 37 - Chapter 37

As Lore's blood hit the dirt, the second Wyrm came rushing at Lore's back. Lore decided to initiate a Lightning spell, forming the shape of his sword, Lore now had one solid short sword and one made of lightning. Lore felt this was his only move, as the steel short sword lay on the floor just out of reach. He swung the sword made of lightning, and was able to make a not so deep slash on the Wyrm.

Lore was on the verge of passing out when he felt the grip of the magic fading from his grasp.

Two Wyrm still lived, both much bigger than the first he killed. He had wounded both, but they were just scratches.

On the other hand Lore had a punctured side, and broken ribs. He knew this fight wouldn't be easy. He braced himself, and began running healing spells through his body. He readied his sword made of Lightning magic and faced the two enemies fearlessly.

Lore fought for what felt forever. Casting magic, swinging his sword, jumping and dodging attacks.

Each blow he struck on the enemy drained him of energy.

He beheaded the second smaller Wyrm. His chest was heaving by this point, but had one enemy remaining.

Eventually, Lore drove his magical crackling blade into the Elder Wyrm's heart, and felt the life drain from it.

Lore whispered "Thank you for the challenging battle, and becoming the stepping stones to my greatness." tt wasn't long before the two Wyrms fell.

Lore laid on the ground, panting heavily, and the wound in his side burned with pain.

He sat up and walked over to the sword, picking it up and examining it. He could see that the blade had been enchanted. He held the blade up, and saw the words "Knight King" emblazoned on it.

Lore smiled at the thought of becoming a Knight King someday. This must have been a gift from his master, Valorum, who would be audacious enough to emblazon 'Knight King' on an Apprentice's short sword. Not even his main weapon. This meant Valorum believed in his abilities.

He looked up to see the corpses of three fairly sized Wyrm's. He wasn't sure how he'd get all of the bodies out of the cave, but he knew he should send a message to his master, Valorum. Lore also brooded for a moment on how he failed to tame a Wyrm, but impressed himself for defeating three single handedly.

Lore stood up, and his guts screamed with pain. He put the short sword away, and prepared himself for another round of travel. As he left the cave, he made a mental note to search for something that could help him carry these bodies out.

As Lore traveled deeper into the forest, he came across a few injured animals and humans, but none of them were actually living. Over the next day, he made his way back to camp where he sent a message via magic to his master.

Valorum returned with two others, who were carrying two cages.

"Lore, I am glad you made it back safely."

"Thank you Master."

Valorum gave a grin. "I did not believe you when you said you defeated three of those things."

Lore looked at his wounds and winced.

"I'm sorry Master, it looks like I failed to tame one."

Valorum had a look of disappointment on his face.

"I only sent you to defeat an adolescent Wyrm, and here you are, victorious over two adolescents and an Elder Wyrm! Why would I be disappointed you didn't tame one. You survived Kid!" Valorum yelled happily.

"Master, I have another question."

"Yes?" Valorum paused and waited for Lore to continue.

"I've been hearing stories that say the Elder Wyrm is the strongest of them all, and you can't tame one." Lore spoke with a questioning stare.

"Of thr Wyrm's, yes they are the strongest. However, there are Drakes, and Dragon's, who far exceed the strength of a Wyrm. That rumor is false, if a Dragon Lord can be tamed, so to can a measly Elder Wyrm" Valorum said to Lore with a pat on the shoulder.

"Then why did you send me after the kid, and not the Elder?"

Valorum smiled, "Because the Elder is one of the greatest challenges a Paladin could ask for, and you'll need more experience before you can take on a dragon."

"So you're telling me I failed."

"No, no, no, there is nothing wrong with failing. It just means you have to practice more, and improve yourself."

"Do you really believe that?"

"Sure do, and if you don't believe me, you should just try practicing some more."

Lore tried to stand, but he couldn't hold himself up, and he fell to the ground. He laid there for a moment before passing out.

***

Lore woke up with a start, and he groaned from the pain in his side.

"Well look who's awake," said Valorum.

Lore moaned as he lifted himself up to his elbows. "What happened?"

"You fought that group of Wyrm's, and they almost killed you. You won, and you passed out infront of me. That was two weeks ago. I've brought you back to the City of Towers."

Lore shuddered at the memory of what had transpired.

The nurse cocked her head to the side. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah I'm fine. How could you heal me so fast?"

"I have a lot of power, and I was able to use my magic to quickly heal you." The nurse laughed. "I jest, but I have been using my healing spells on you."

Lore felt good to be in a normal bed, in a city he knew. He fell back into the bed and closed his eyes. He then heard a knock at the door.

"Come in" said Valorum

"Sorry to disturb you both but there are matters for you to address General Valorum."

"What is it?" asked Valorum.

"Several other cities have sent messengers reporting that they've experienced tremors, and minor earthquakes. Also, the magical energy of the land has increased drastically."

Valorum furrowed his brow before speaking "Just one issue followed by another."

Valorum looked at Lore "Lore, I must go speak with the Elder's about this phenomena. Rest here. When I know more, I'll let you know."

As Valorum walked away Lore could hear him muttering to himself "Powers above and below, what can I do?"

***

It had been another week since Lore woke up. After much investigation, thr Elder's all around Internia came to the conclusion that because of the war a year ago, the magics used gave disturbed the natural flowm Magic was surging and gathering like a storm all over the continent.

In the skies above the vast plains, a pair of dragons flew about.

"We need to find a city or town soon, The Queen of Daemon will know that we've escaped and we need to get help for the other captured dragons."Whispered one dragon.

"Agreed, sh'll send people after us, but if we fly around the coast of the continent, then we should be safe." Said the other.

"I just wish I knew why she wanted the dragons." The dragons continued their flight before reaching the coast. They then caught the coastal gusts and begin their journey to Internia.

In the City of Towers Lore had finally recovered, and he was vigorously training with Valorum. The city was bustling. Workers bustled about as merchants sold goods. People walked about, talking, laughing, and enjoying the sights.

Valorum stopped his training and looked at Lore. "You look exhausted. Why not take some rest?"

Lore stood up and shook his head "I feel fine."

"Remember your promise to the Elder's, and how they had you healed?" Valorum shook his head, as Lore thought back to his nurse, and on the last day she visited she spoke to him ominously. "The Elder's have high hopes for you, Lore. They want you to know, if you devote yourself to this land, this country and It's people, they will support you with all their might. You would in theory have a guarantee of becoming a Knight King."

*

Lore's thoughts flashed back to the present and he readied himself for more training.

"Let me show you what I can do." Lore muttered to himself.

Lore leaped into the air and began to fire off spells one after another, while slashing his sword through the air.

Valorum looked up at Lore as he leapt into the air. He let loose his own barrage of magic, and swung his blade through the air, using his momentum to launch himself into the sky. Valorum aimed and sent a magic arrow flying at Lore, who dodged the shot and landed close to Valorum.
