The afternoon sun was beginning to dip lower into the horizon, casting a warm, orange hue over the Hidden Leaf Village.
Inside the Uchiha Compound, the atmosphere was surprisingly peaceful. Kyo stood in front of the full-length mirror in his bedroom, carefully adjusting the collar of his dark crimson jacket over a black v-neck shirt. After the intense, sensual evening with Ino and the emotional depth of his date with Tenten, he felt a strange sense of calm washing over him.
Today was his date with Sakura.
Unlike the others, Sakura was one of his original teammates. Along with Naruko and Satsuki, she had been there from the very beginning. He had seen her cry, he had seen her bleed, and he had watched her transform from a civilian-born academy student into a terrifying powerhouse under Tsunade's brutal tutelage.
'I wonder what she has planned,' Kyo thought, checking his reflection one last time and running a hand through his perpetually messy raven hair. 'With Sakura, it could be a quiet dinner, or she might literally punch a mountain in half to show off her new strength. Honestly, both are equally likely.'
"Looking sharp, handsome."
Kyo turned to see Zangya leaning against the doorframe, munching on an apple. She wore her usual revealing teal outfit, her orange hair falling beautifully over her shoulders. She gave him a slow, appreciative once-over.
"Thanks, Zangya," Kyo smiled, grabbing his keys from the nightstand. "Is the house surviving without me?"
"Barely," Zangya smirked, taking another bite. "Naruko is currently sulking in the living room because she has to wait for her turn, and Satsuki is pretending to read a scroll but I can tell she's listening to every word we say. You've got these girls wrapped around your little finger, Saiyan."
Kyo rubbed the back of his neck, feeling a slight blush creeping up his cheeks. "I'm just trying to keep my promises."
Zangya chuckled, walking over and playfully adjusting the lapel of his jacket. "Well, have fun tonight. But a word of warning... Tsunade-sama trained that pink-haired girl of yours. Her physical strength is no joke. Don't let her break your pelvis if things get heated, okay?"
Kyo's face instantly erupted into a shade of bright red. "Zangya! We're just going on a date!"
"Just looking out for my favorite warrior," she purred with a wicked wink, stepping back to let him pass. "Go get her, tiger."
---
Kyo and Sakura had agreed to meet at the village's central park, a beautiful, sprawling area filled with cherry blossom trees that were currently in full bloom. The falling pink petals perfectly matched her namesake, creating a scene right out of a romantic painting.
As Kyo approached the wooden bridge arching over the park's large koi pond, his breath completely caught in his throat.
Sakura was leaning against the wooden railing, looking down at the water, bathed in the soft, golden light of the setting sun. She wasn't wearing her usual red Qipao combat dress or her shinobi gear. Instead, she wore a sleek, elegant crimson off-the-shoulder dress that fell gracefully just above her knees. The fabric hugged her toned curves perfectly. A black silk ribbon was tied securely around her waist, accentuating her figure, and her signature pink hair was let down, framing her face in soft waves. She wore a delicate silver necklace with a small cherry blossom pendant resting against her collarbone.
She looked undeniably mature. She wasn't the loud, insecure academy student anymore. She carried an aura of quiet, confident strength.
"Hey," Kyo said softly as he stepped onto the bridge, not wanting to break the serene picture.
Sakura turned, and a bright, breathtaking smile illuminated her face. The faint pink dusting across her cheeks only added to her charm. "Hey yourself. You're right on time, Kyo-kun."
"I wouldn't dare be late for you," Kyo smiled, stepping closer to her. His steely grey eyes took in her appearance once more, filled with unfiltered admiration. "You look... absolutely gorgeous, Sakura. Seriously."
Her smile widened, her emerald green eyes sparkling with genuine happiness and a hint of pride. "Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself. The crimson suits you." She reached out, gently straightening his collar just like Zangya had done, but Sakura's touch sent a warm, familiar flutter through his chest.
"So," Kyo offered his arm. "What's the plan for tonight? Are we sparring, or are we eating?"
Sakura laughed, a beautiful, melodic sound, as she looped her arm through his. "No sparring tonight, muscle-brain. Come on, I have the whole evening planned out."
Instead of leading him to an expensive, high-class restaurant like Ino had, or demanding to be won prizes like Tenten, Sakura grabbed his hand and led him out of the park and into the bustling civilian sector of Konoha.
The night market was coming alive. Paper lanterns were being lit, casting a warm glow over the stalls. Sakura dragged him from stall to stall, her enthusiasm infectious. They bought simple street food—hot dangos, fresh takoyaki, and sweet red bean crepes.
"Okay, okay, wait," Sakura giggled, holding a stick of dango as they walked shoulder-to-shoulder. "Do you remember our first bell test with Kakane-sensei?"
"How could I forget?" Kyo groaned, taking a bite of a takoyaki ball. "I tried to fight her head-on, Satsuki tried to be a lone wolf, Naruko ended up tied to a wooden post, and you fainted because Kakane put you in a Genjutsu."
Sakura blushed furiously, lightly punching his arm. Even a 'light' punch from Tsunade's apprentice felt like a solid hit from a boulder, but Kyo's Saiyan durability absorbed it easily. "Hey! I was young and traumatized! Seeing Satsuki with kunai sticking out of her everywhere was terrifying!"
"I know, I know," Kyo laughed, bumping his shoulder against hers. "But look at us now. If Kakane-sensei tried that bell test on us today... we would probably destroy the entire training ground."
Sakura looked down at her hands, her smile softening into something deeply nostalgic and proud. "Yeah. We would. We've come a long way, haven't we?"
"We have," Kyo agreed quietly, his grey eyes softening as he looked at her.
It was incredibly comfortable. It was easy. There were no mind games, no intense pressure. It felt like two best friends who had fought through hell together, and who also happened to be deeply, irrevocably in love.
As the sky turned completely dark and the stars began to appear above the village, Sakura led him away from the crowded market streets. They walked up the winding, quiet dirt path that led toward the Hokage Monument. They didn't stop at the usual civilian viewing deck; Sakura continued leading him higher, navigating the steep, rocky terrain with the effortless grace of a seasoned Kunoichi, until they reached the secluded grassy plateau directly above the carved stone faces.
"Here we are," Sakura said, letting go of his hand. She pulled out a small storage scroll from a hidden pocket in her dress, unsealed it with a puff of smoke, and spread a large, comfortable picnic blanket over the soft grass. "Sit with me."
Kyo sat down, crossing his legs as he looked out over the sprawling, illuminated village. The view was breathtaking. The cool night wind rustled the leaves of the surrounding trees, and the ambient noise of Konoha was nothing but a distant, peaceful hum. It was a perfect, private atmosphere.
Sakura sat beside him, pulling her knees to her chest. The slit of her crimson dress shifted slightly, but her attention wasn't on trying to be seductive. She was looking out at the village, her emerald eyes reflecting the distant lights.
The lighthearted, comedic energy of their street food tour slowly faded, replaced by a heavy, intimate silence.
"You know," Sakura began softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "When we first became Team 7, I used to come up here a lot. Usually at night. Usually to cry."
Kyo turned his head, his expression instantly shifting from relaxed to concerned. "Why?"
"Because I was weak," Sakura admitted, her voice carrying a heavy, deeply rooted sadness. "I was so incredibly weak. Naruko had the Nine-Tails and endless stamina. Satsuki was a prodigy with the Sharingan. And you... you were this impossible, golden warrior who could fight Kage-level threats before we were even teenagers."
She let out a soft, self-deprecating laugh, burying her face slightly in her knees. "I was just... Sakura. The civilian girl who liked reading books and had a crush on a boy. Every time an enemy attacked—Zabuza, Orochi, the Sound Ninja—I was always the one standing in the back. Watching you three bleed, watching you break your bones, watching you get torn apart just to protect me."
She turned her head to look at him, and Kyo could see the raw, lingering guilt shining in her eyes. "I hated it, Kyo. I hated feeling useless while the people I loved were dying."
Kyo shifted closer to her, his heart aching at her confession. 'She carried all that guilt by herself for years,' he thought, realizing just how heavy the burden of being the 'normal' one on a team of literal gods must have been.
"Sakura, you were never useless—" Kyo started, reaching out to comfort her, but Sakura gently reached up and placed a soft finger over his lips to silence him.
"I know I wasn't useless," Sakura smiled, and the sadness in her eyes was suddenly replaced by a fierce, unwavering, burning confidence. "But I wasn't an equal."
She lowered her hand, taking a deep, shuddering breath as she remembered the darkest day of her life.
"When Asura attacked... when he killed you..." Sakura's voice cracked, and a single tear escaped, tracing down her cheek. "When I saw your chest pierced, and your heart stopped beating... it broke something inside me, Kyo. It shattered me completely. I realized that if I didn't get stronger, if I stayed the girl who needed saving, I was going to lose everyone."
She turned her body fully toward him, her emerald eyes locking onto his steely grey ones.
"So I begged Tsunade-sama to train me," Sakura continued, her voice gaining strength, echoing with the absolute resolve of a Kunoichi who had walked through fire. "She didn't hold back. She broke my bones in sparring. I healed them, and she broke them again. I pushed my chakra until my coils literally bled. I swallowed poison to build immunity. I forced myself to become a monster, Kyo."
She reached out, her soft, calloused hands gently cupping Kyo's face. Her thumbs stroked his cheekbones.
"I didn't do it for the village, Kyo," she whispered, leaning closer, her breath ghosting over his lips. "I didn't do it for Hokage-sama, or for glory. I did it for you. I swore to myself that the next time you faced a god, or a monster from another universe, you wouldn't have to put me behind you to protect me. I want to stand beside you. I want to be your shield, just as much as you are mine."
The sheer intensity, the profound, unwavering devotion in her words hit Kyo like a physical force. He looked into her emerald eyes and saw no hesitation, no lingering insecurity. He didn't see the crying academy student anymore.
He saw a powerful, independent warrior who loved him more than life itself.
Overwhelmed by a surging tidal wave of raw affection, respect, and deep love, Kyo reached up and covered her hands with his own. He gently pulled them from his face, only to interlace his fingers tightly with hers.
"You are my equal, Sakura," Kyo murmured, his voice thick with emotion, his Saiyan aura flaring just slightly, casting a warm golden glow over them. "You always have been. The strength of your heart has always been the strongest thing about you. And I would be honored to have you stand by my side. Until the end of the universe."
Sakura's breath hitched, her eyes watering with tears of pure, unadulterated joy. The heavy weight she had carried for years finally, completely evaporated. She wasn't just accepted; she was acknowledged by the strongest man in the world.
She leaned in, closing the final distance between them.
Their lips met in a deep, desperate, and fiercely passionate kiss. It wasn't hesitant, and it wasn't shy. It was a powerful collision of two warriors. Sakura's arms wrapped tightly around his neck, pulling him flush against her, her fingers tangling in his raven hair. Kyo groaned softly, his strong arms wrapping around her waist, pulling her into his lap, holding her with a fierce, protective tenderness.
It was a kiss of equals. A silent, unbreakable contract forged in the moonlight that they would face whatever horrors the universe threw at them, together.
For a few perfect, blissful, echoing seconds, the world completely faded away. There was no pain, no war, no alien threats. There was only the warmth of her lips and the scent of cherry blossoms.
Poof.
"Uchiha Kyo. Haruno Sakura."
Kyo and Sakura instantly broke apart. The romantic haze vanished in a microsecond as their bodies instinctively tensed for combat. Sakura's fist already glowed with a deadly green chakra, while Kyo's grey eyes snapped toward the source of the sound, a golden spark of Ki ready at his fingertips.
Standing less than ten feet away on the grassy plateau, illuminated only by the moonlight, was an Anbu operative wearing a porcelain eagle mask.
Kyo let his Ki fade, letting out a frustrated, incredibly heavy sigh. He dropped his forehead onto Sakura's shoulder, groaning into the fabric of her dress. 'Kami-sama... just one night. Can I just have one complete, peaceful date without the world ending? Is that really too much to ask?'
Sakura, her face flushed a furious red from the interrupted kiss, quickly composed herself. She stood up, smoothing down her dress, and glared at the Anbu operative with a look so terrifying it could have made an S-Rank missing-nin flinch.
"This better be important," Sakura hissed, her fists clenching at her sides. "Because if it's not, I am going to punch you so hard your mask will fuse to your face permanently."
The Anbu didn't flinch, his posture rigid, his voice entirely professional and terrifyingly grave. "This is an S-Rank emergency. Hokage-sama summons both of you to her office immediately. Do not bother changing into uniform. Go now."
With a swirl of leaves and a crackle of chakra, the Anbu vanished.
The warm, romantic atmosphere of the date completely evaporated, replaced by a suffocating, heavy tension that chilled the night air. Kyo stood up, the annoyance fading from his grey eyes, replaced entirely by the hardened, cold stare of a Saiyan warrior.
"S-Rank," Sakura whispered, her green eyes narrowing as she looked at Kyo. "That's not a border dispute or a rogue ninja. That's a full-scale threat."
"Come on," Kyo said, grabbing her hand. He didn't waste time running. In a blink of an eye, he placed two fingers on his forehead, locked onto Tsunade's massive Ki signature, and activated his Instant Transmission.
Fwip!
They vanished from the Hokage Monument.
---
When they materialized directly inside the Hokage's office, the room was already filled with a tense, chaotic, and suffocating energy.
Tsunade was standing behind her desk, her hands slammed flat against the wood, her face pale and furious. Shizune was frantically sorting through bloody scrolls, her hands shaking. Standing in front of the desk were Naruko, Satsuki, and Hinata, all already dressed in their combat gear.
"You're late," Satsuki noted coldly, glancing at Kyo and Sakura, though her Sharingan was already active, spinning lazily in the dim light of the office.
"We got the summons two minutes ago," Kyo replied, stepping forward, letting go of Sakura's hand. He looked at Tsunade, feeling the distress radiating from the blonde Hokage. "Tsuna-Hime, what's going on?"
"Thirty minutes ago, our communications relay picked up a frantic distress signal from the Land of Fire's northern border," Tsunade began, her voice tight, devoid of any of her usual warmth. "It was from a small, peaceful civilian village located in a deep valley. The transmission was heavily garbled by some kind of strange interference, but the cryptology team managed to decipher the last few words before the line went completely dead."
She pushed a transcribed, blood-stained scroll toward them. Kyo picked it up, his eyes scanning the hasty, terrified handwriting.
...sky is falling... winged machines... raining fire... please, Konoha, help us... they are wiping us ou—
"Winged machines?" Naruko asked, her brow furrowing in deep confusion. "Like... birds? Did someone summon a flock of giant birds?"
"No," Tsunade said darkly, her eyes narrowing. "Like flying ships. Reports from neighboring border outposts confirmed seeing a massive fleet of strange, mechanical gliders crossing the sky under the cover of darkness. They struck the village without warning, unleashing a brutal bombardment of explosive tags and heavy, advanced weaponry."
"Why would anyone attack a civilian village?" Hinata asked, her pale eyes wide with horror as she clutched her hands to her chest. "There's no strategic value there. No military outposts. No resources."
"Terror," Satsuki answered coldly, her voice sharp as a blade. "To spread fear and panic. To show that borders mean nothing."
"Exactly," Tsunade nodded grimly. "But it's worse than that. Based on the description of the winged machines, Jiraiyu and I believe we know who they are. They are the Sora-nin. The Sky Ninjas."
The room went quiet.
"I thought they were wiped out during the Second Shinobi World War," Sakura said, her medical and historical knowledge kicking in. "Konoha destroyed their base because they tried to conquer the Five Great Nations."
"We thought we wiped them out," Tsunade corrected bitterly. "It seems the survivors went into hiding, spent decades rebuilding their forces, and now they are back for revenge. And whoever is leading them, they are incredibly well-coordinated and heavily armed. The valley village is completely unresponsive. We have to assume the worst, but there might be survivors trapped in the rubble."
Tsunade stood up straight, her authoritative gaze sweeping over the five powerful teenagers in front of her.
"This is not a reconnaissance mission. This is a rescue and retaliation operation," Tsunade commanded, her voice echoing with the authority of the Hokage. "Kyo, you will lead the strike team. Take Naruko, Satsuki, Sakura, and Hinata. I need my absolute heaviest hitters on this. If you encounter the enemy fleet, you have full authorization to use lethal force. Bring them down from the sky."
"Understood," Kyo nodded, his golden Ki flaring slightly around his edges, humming with barely contained anticipation and anger. He turned to the girls. "You all heard her. We move fast. Hold onto me."
Sakura, Naruko, Satsuki, and Hinata quickly gathered around him, placing their hands firmly on his shoulders, arms, and back.
"Bring them back safe, Kyo," Tsunade said softly, her eyes holding a hidden, deeply personal worry for the man she loved.
"Always," Kyo promised, his gaze unwavering.
He placed two fingers to his forehead, closed his eyes, and expanded his senses. He bypassed the nearby chakra signatures of Konoha, reaching out miles and miles toward the northern border, searching for the faint life signatures of the valley village.
He found them, but they were terrifyingly few.
Fwip!
They vanished from the office.
---
The teleportation was instantaneous. One second, they were in the brightly lit, secure Hokage office, and the next, they were standing on a high, jagged cliff overlooking the northern valley.
The smell hit them before they even opened their eyes. It was the suffocating, acrid, stomach-turning stench of burning wood, scorched earth, and charred flesh.
"Oh my Kami..." Hinata whispered, her hands flying to her mouth in absolute horror as she took in the sight.
Kyo looked down into the valley, his jaw clenching so hard his teeth ached.
The village was gone.
It wasn't just attacked; it was utterly, ruthlessly eradicated. Where wooden houses, markets, and peaceful farms had once stood, there were only massive, smoking craters. Fires raged uncontrollably through the ruins, casting long, demonic shadows across the devastation. Ash fell from the sky like grey snow. The serene valley had been turned into a literal, burning hellscape.
"There's... there's nothing left," Naruko said, her voice trembling with a mix of profound sorrow and rising, explosive fury. Her fists clenched, her nails digging into her palms. "Who could do something like this to innocent people?"
Sakura stepped forward to the very edge of the cliff, her fists glowing with a faint, pulsing green chakra. The romantic girl from the monument was gone; the combat medic was fully in charge. "We need to get down there. Right now. There might be people buried under the rubble. We can still save them."
"Wait," Kyo said sharply, throwing his arm out to physically stop her from jumping.
"What is it, Kyo-kun?" Satsuki asked, noticing the intense, unnatural stillness in Kyo's posture. His grey eyes were wide, staring down into the center of the flames.
Kyo closed his eyes, his Ki senses expanding outward like a radar, sweeping over the burning ruins below. He was looking for survivors, searching for the faint, flickering sparks of human life.
But instead of finding life, he felt something else entirely.
'What the hell is this?' Kyo thought, a cold sweat breaking out on the back of his neck. His Saiyan instincts screamed at him, perceiving a threat that felt entirely alien to this world.
It wasn't Chakra. It wasn't natural energy. It wasn't even the dark, demonic Ki of someone like Asura or Garly.
It felt like a massive, suffocating, crushing blanket of pure, unadulterated despair. It was an energy source that felt ancient, slimy, and completely devoid of light. It felt like standing at the bottom of a freezing ocean. And worst of all, Kyo could feel it breathing. It was feeding on the sorrow, the pain, and the death of the eradicated village, growing stronger, denser, and more terrifying with every passing second.
"Kyo? What do you sense?" Hinata asked urgently, activating her Byakugan. The veins bulged around her pale eyes as she pierced through the thick smoke. Suddenly, she gasped, stumbling backward as if physically struck. "T-There's... there's a massive shadow moving beneath the ruins! It has no chakra network, but it's... it's huge! It's made of darkness!"
"We're not alone," Kyo growled, his hands balling into fists as a brilliant, violent golden aura began to flicker around his body, pushing back the dark chill of the valley. "Whatever attacked this place... they didn't just bomb it. They woke something up. They left something behind."
Suddenly, a piercing, terrified scream echoed from the absolute center of the burning ruins. It didn't sound like a monster. It sounded like a young girl.
"Someone's alive!" Naruko shouted, her blue eyes blazing with Nine-Tails red as she lunged forward.
"Move!" Kyo commanded, his voice booming over the roar of the flames.
The five of them leaped off the high cliff, plunging straight down into the burning, smoke-filled hellscape, completely unaware that they were stepping directly into the jaws of an ancient, starving nightmare.
