The heavy oak door of the master bedroom slammed shut, cutting off the main penthouse. Rudy twisted the deadbolt, locking Maria and Ruby out in the living room.
He knew exactly what he was doing. Maria and Ruby had years of alternate-timeline baggage to sort through, coupled with the fact that they had been fighting a literal syndicate war against each other up until ten minutes ago. Having their past memories restored bridged the gap, but they still needed the privacy to scream at each other, break a few glasses, and finally hug it out.
Inside the bedroom, Lilim stood with her back pressed against the wall. Her crimson eyes dilated, and her black horns caught the dim neon light filtering through the floor-to-ceiling windows. She was still wearing her ruined butler uniform, her chest heaving as she stared at the man who had just conquered the sector and rewritten her mind.
"They need to talk," Rudy stated, unbuttoning his collar. "Which means you and I have a lot of time to kill."
