Hearing Shard say this, the woman nodded, slightly opening the door to let Shard and Matilda in together.
As the golden-haired girl passed by her, the woman glanced at Matilda's face:
"You must watch over her, otherwise she will eventually run off with someone else... That's exactly how my son's wife ran off."
Shard merely pretended to give an awkward smile and, holding Matilda's hand, continued walking deeper into the Opera House.
Presumably to save electricity, the Opera House had the lights off during the day. But there were lit portable oil lamps placed at intervals along the corridor, guiding visitors so they wouldn't lose direction.
Shard didn't sense any supernatural power here, and even those lamps were just ordinary items. So the two of them found their way to the second floor and eventually entered the largest performance hall on the second floor, Room 1.
Of course, "largest" was in fact only about a third the size of the ground floor of the Shard Family estate.
