The announcement echoed across the Law Faculty corridors with unnecessary grandeur.
"Dylan Al'Xander, please report to the Office of the Head of Department."
It came through the speaker system as if he were being summoned to a public trial.
Students lifted their heads. A few smirked. Someone whispered,
"What did he do?"
as though law students weren't perpetually guilty of something.
Dylan closed his notebook slowly. He already knew why he was being called. What irritated him was the timing. His appointment with the Dean was scheduled for later. Public summons meant urgency. Urgency meant complication.
He walked through the marble corridor with steady steps, suppressing the mild heat crawling up his spine. The brass plate outside the office gleamed:
Dean of Law, National University of Capaldi.
Inside, the Dean did not waste time on pleasantries.
"You'll come with me," he said simply.
