Victor Morgan wanted nothing more than to charge through the phone and beat Ron to a pulp. There was no way he would let Vera go anywhere near that demon.
Ron continued, "Vera, you don't have much time. I'm giving you a chance. If you don't take it, then don't blame me for getting nasty."
As he spoke, Ron put the phone on speaker so Vera could hear Mrs. Ellison's terrified screams, a move calculated to tighten his control over her.
"Ron, stop! I'll come over right now. Just don't hurt her."
"Good. I knew you were a woman of your word, Vera. I'll be waiting. Don't disappoint me. You know that if I'm unhappy, the consequences will be dire."
His words made Vera's blood run cold. She knew exactly what they meant and had no way of refusing Ron's conditions.
"I understand. I'll do what you want. But you promised me you wouldn't hurt her. Tell your men to leave. Stop scaring Mrs. Ellison."
"Fine. I'll do as you say."
