Vera stared at the churning waves. The world around her was a pitch-black expanse, with not a single star in the sky. The gloomy, oppressive weather left her feeling deeply unsettled.

"As long as you haven't sent anyone after them, I don't want to discuss it. I just want to know how many days we're going to be drifting at sea."
To this day, Ron still hadn't told her where they were going or how long she'd be on this boat.
"What, you want to know so you can plot your escape from my grasp? I'd advise you to drop that idea. The only way out is to jump overboard. Unless you have a death wish, you won't do that."
His words grated on her. "Can't I even ask?" she retorted, displeased. "You don't have to tell me, but there's no need to be so nasty about it."
