Vera Warner had no idea Victor Morgan was no longer angry—let alone that he had gone out of his way to buy flowers. She had assumed he was still sulking, which was why he hadn't contacted her.
But hearing this news now just made Vera Warner suddenly tense up.
"Special Assistant York, are you sure you're not just helping him coax me? I can't reach him. His phone is off, he hasn't come home, and I've checked all the places he might be, but he's not there."
The news jolted Special Assistant York wide awake. He responded firmly, "Everything I'm saying is true. President Morgan even had me check the recent weather in Switzerland. He wanted to take you there for a vacation."
Vera Warner knew nothing about any of this. She had simply thought Victor Morgan was ignoring her.
"Special Assistant York, you know Victor better than I do. Please, help me think of where he might have gone. I can't find him, and I'm worried something happened."
