Vera tried to speak to him several times, but Victor mostly ignored her, not even glancing in her direction, which left her at a loss.
Their relationship had devolved from one of deep affection to this sorry state, and Vera knew she bore a great deal of the responsibility for the conflict.
Once the two children were asleep, Victor went to his study to deal with some work. Vera followed him in with a cup of coffee, hoping to extend an olive branch.
The Vera of the past had been far too stubborn to ever swallow her pride and sue for peace. Even when she was the one in the wrong, it was almost always Victor who would coax her and be the first to make up.
But this time, things seemed to be serious. Victor looked genuinely angry, which worried her.
