Victor Morgan was discharged from the hospital without a hitch, much to Vera Warner's relief. Gordon Morgan and his wife said nothing, and the one-month deadline they had originally given her was no longer mentioned.
"Vera, I told you they wouldn't give you a hard time. I'll talk to them, so you don't have to worry."
"Your priority right now is your recovery. And don't argue with them. Your father's blood pressure has been high lately; he needs to manage his emotions."
Even now, Vera was still concerned about Victor's recovery. She didn't blame his parents for their previous hostility, knowing they had only been acting out of concern for their family.
Victor Morgan pinched her cheek. "My Vera is just so kind. With how close we are now, if you tried to drive a wedge between me and my parents, I'd definitely take your side and leave with you."
"Oh, listen to you. If I were that kind of person, would you still love me?"
"Who knows?"
