Following a cry of alarm from one of his men, the group finally spotted a small island shrouded in the distant, thick fog.
The fog over the island was bizarre. For several nautical miles, the sea was calm, yet this solitary isle remained completely enveloped. The dense trees within made the scene all the more unsettling.
"Everyone, move out!"
Victor Morgan pressed forward, unwilling to waste another second.
Before long, however, they discovered the problem: the water was full of hidden reefs, preventing the fleet from advancing. The hulls of the two lead boats were already starting to leak.
They finally understood why the kidnappers had abandoned their own vessels. The rescue mission had hit a dead end.
"President Morgan! I think we should call in other ships with rubber rafts. Otherwise, we won't be able to reach—"
But before Damon Larson could finish, Victor Morgan cut him off.
