Chapter 825 - Chapter - 804 ( Symbiosis )

Belta frowned when she saw how the old vampire seemed to be staring into nothingness, as if he was thinking about the mysteries of the universe. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but the thing was, she was alone, and she didn't have enough power to be able to defend herself if the vampire went crazy and got close enough, though this was a risk she accepted when she argued with Lyutillis and Meiru about being able to enter the labyrinth to try to contact Vandre Schnee.

"Am I overthinking this?" - Belta muttered as she looked closely at Dienleed, who seemed to have reacted to her gaze.

"Did something happen?" - Dienleed asked as he raised an eyebrow.

"No, it's nothing," replied Belta as she walked over to a nearby cupboard and pulled out some food so she could prepare dinner.

Dienleed shook his head before lying back down, though his expression changed when he heard a voice whisper in his ear.

[I told you not to show any changes in your reactions...]

Dienleed ignored the voice, though a sharp pain quickly appeared in his head - "Ugh..."

"Are you alright?" - Belta asked with a frown, though she didn't approach the vampire because she instinctively felt that there was something off about this man, that's why she had the barrier stones activated.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Dienleed replied calmly as he cursed the son of a bitch Alva for causing him so much trouble. He had not only stolen this body, as well as turned him into Ehit's lapdog, the same son of a bitch who had been the cause of the near-extinction of his race, but he had also had his hands stained with the blood of thousands of innocents.

[Listen to me, Dienleed, no matter how much you hate me, the two of us are now one, and we cannot live without each other, and this is because of all the time we have lived in symbiosis.]

"I know, that's why I haven't opened my mouth" - Dienleed replied in his thoughts while again cursing the demon god - "After all, if you get killed, I'm going to become a person without cognitive abilities."

[Yeah, that's a shame]

Dienleed ignored the sarcasm in the lower god's words, to quickly continue the conversation - "Tell me what you want and let's get it over with, after all, I don't want them to think I'm a traitor or a spy."

[I don't care if they find out the truth, I mean, it doesn't change our situation at all, it only puts you in danger].

"To both of us, don't play it cool, your current state is so weak that even my niece could kill you, or rather, kill us" - Dienleed replied with disdain.

Alva was silent for this was true. With the near complete annihilation of the demons, his divine power had fallen to the bare minimum so that he could maintain his divine station, though at the same time this had caused his presence to go undetected by Ehit, Cloud and other entities that could sense divine presences.

[You are right, my current state is demeaning, but I want to ask you a question, Dienleed? Do you really wish your niece to have the death of her last family on her conscience]?

This time it was Dienleed who was silent, after all, this was something that was eating him up inside. Yes, he was happy that his niece finally had a place to fit in, as even in the past she had been treated like a monster, but at the same time he was scared that she would find out the truth about her current situation, not because he was afraid of dying, but because he didn't want his niece to suffer anymore.

[Anyway, as long as you keep quiet and don't act like an idiot.]

"I know, you don't have to repeat it anymore" - Dienleed snorted in his thoughts, only to notice how Belta was frowning - "Sorry, there are times when I have recollections of my past while being controlled by Alva..."

Belta raised an eyebrow before waiting for him to continue.

"I'll be honest now that it's just the two of us" - sighed Dienleed as he grabbed his head to pretend he was feeling a powerful migraine - "I can hear the screams of pain and despair of all the people who died because of me while I was being controlled, that's why there are times when I stare into the void".

Belta frowned when she heard this as she nodded - "I understand, though you don't have to feel guilty, you weren't the person who did all that mayhem"

"No, yes it was me, even when it was consciously" - Dienleed replied as he gritted his teeth - "That's why these cruel memories are my punishments."

Belta was silent before deciding to change the subject, then returning to the kitchen.

Dienleed let out a sigh when he saw that he had managed to convince this strange woman, though that didn't make him let his guard down, he kept a watchful eye out in case he made another mistake, after all, he knew she didn't trust him.

"Do you know why those two women entered the labyrinth despite the danger of me being left alone with this stranger?" - Dienleed asked in his thoughts.

[Honestly, I have no idea, though I think it has to do with the fact that [Umbra] awakened in full, and is beginning her hunt against the group of humans from another dimension].

"[Umbra]?" - Dienleed repeated with mild curiosity.

[It's a cursed sword made from the remains of the shadow god, Ehit had it forged because it was the only way to bring the humans of that time under his banner, thus causing the war of the gods to spread to the entire continent.]

"Wait! You're telling me that all the chaos of the first era was caused by Ehit?!" - Dienleed exclaimed in his thoughts because it was obvious that there was no way he would shout something like this.

[Yes, it was my former master's fault!]

Dienleed was silent before he felt it all begin to make sense, especially the innate hostility of many ancient races for the mad god.

[Truth be told, I too am surprised that one small action, caused all the ancestral races to join the war, and although they didn't cause that much damage, their efforts were more than enough to be able to turn the balance in favour of Ehit's faction]

Dienleed was curious about the events of the past, though he quickly shook his head because he knew better than to inquire further into the subject.

The saying, "ignorance is a virtue", was not as false as he thought, after all, the more he knew about Tortus' murky past, the more he felt he was being dragged into a dark abyss.

"We'd better leave this for another time, because there's something I want to ask you" - Dienleed said seriously - "How dangerous is [Umbra]?"

[For the blond, there is no danger, after all, it is impossible for [Umbra] to reach Ehit's level, and even if it did, I'm sure the irregular could fix it, the problem is the rest of us, if [Umbra] manages to absorb the souls of those otherworldly humans, then we will have a force to worry about, especially since I'm sure they will come directly against us to steal what little divinity I have left].

Dienleed was silent when he heard this as he felt a shiver run down his spine.

[The thing is, we're safe at the moment, after all, that thing doesn't know about my current appearance, not to mention that my divinity is so well hidden that even if we pass him, he won't be able to detect me, though there's always a "but"...]

Dienleed was silent for a few more seconds, until he asked the million dollar question - "What shall we do?"

"It's simple, we will give all the information we have to the irregular to eliminate [Umbra] as soon as possible, after all, he is a common enemy, not to mention that my desire for cooperation is true].

"I know, I am you and I can sense what you desire" - Dienleed replied with a frown - "You desire control of this world."

[Exactly, though I have learned from my mistakes, or rather, my former master's...]

"I find it ridiculous to hear you talk about a change of heart, even when I can sense the honesty in your words" - Dienleed said with disdain - "I suppose fear is a big factor in making your perspective change."

[Survival is something all living things desire, even gods want to keep our unlimited lives, that's why it shouldn't surprise you].

Dienleed again remained silent as he shook his head, after all, he had no arguments to refute the words of the ancient demon god. Even he wished he was still alive and wished to see his niece's happy ending.

[Don't while, you unconsciously wish to survive, all thanks to you having the survival instincts of the two of us.]

Dienleed clicked his tongue when he heard this, though he had to admit it was true, that's why he was annoyed.
