"Just breathe," I stare at my reflection, my heart pounding as the distant sound of Ivan yelling echoes through the wall. He must be pacing again. "You've got this. Everything will be fine."
I'm beginning to believe the universe has it out for us.
'The universe? Or Ivan?' the curse's having a field day with me. 'Who runs to answer a work call on their honeymoon?'
"I'm not listening to you!" Why didn't it shut up? It stayed quiet when Ivan was around, but the second we're alone it has opinions. "You're not real."
'I'm real because they made me real. You nurtured me, keeping me alive even when they pumped you full of pure water.' pressure throbbed at the base of my skull, making my neck hurt. 'As much as you hate me, you need me more.'
"No, I don't." And I wished I believed that. "You're nothing but lies."
