Chapter 38 - Clear the 4th floor

"Shit!"

I coughed blood. It was a deeper color than usual.

"Circulate your magic power."

Stay calm. It is not the first time I been a shit like this.

"It is the first time I ever been this deep."

As long as I stayed calm and held my body together Regeneration would heal me.

"Grh!"

Even though I tried to manipulate my aura and circulate my magic power to keep my body in one piece, they were nearly fully exhausted. He was strongest enemy I ever really fought and defeated.

"Divine Beast is stronger."

Now that I could understand magical power and aura better I was sure of it. That bastard was even more of a monster than Asterius.

"Yet I was able to escape."

That would be his undoing. If I managed to survive. My aura and magical power nearly hit rock bottom when I heard singing. Some of my power returned back to me.

"Nidalia?"

My voice was so weak that I felt pity towards myself.

"Shut up! I am not saving you because I care about you! I need answers!"

She signed her song. Her voice filled me with strength. So she could also use it to strengthen others? If I knew this from beginning, I would have told her to buff me before charging towards Asterius. Then again, if I had any help from her I didn't think I could have broke the rule. It was something only I could do with my own power. If I had her buffs my balance would be broken.

(Regeneration became level 7.)

Good. Level increasing meant that I was healing. I watched Nidalia dance and sing. Now, I also could see how her abilities worked.

(You acquired passive skill Magic Perception.)

"Hm?"

So, that was how her magic fully worked. It was something hard to describe. Even though I could see how it worked, putting it in words felt above me.

"I am a warrior not a magician."

Even with magic skills, I used them to support me. They were never my main way of attacking.

"Maybe in beginning."

Before I got Basat, I relied on magic. But even then I was just an amateur.

"You can stop healing me."

I looked her sweat covered body. She was not only mentally shook but also was drained of her magical power.

"Did you healed enough?"

"Enough to not die."

"Good. I want answers! What the hell are you? Are you a Calamity? What are the Calamities? Why did you killed him?...."

"Wohoh, slow down. I said I healed enough to not die. I never said I could answer thousands of questions back to back."

Her face reddened for a second.

"Don't worry. I will tell you what I know."

Where to start?

"Firstly, I was human before."

"What?"

Her face amused me.

"I was last human descendant of Goddess of Hell. Well, last one that followed the contract at least."

"A demonic contract?"

I smiled. Looking her troubled face I stopped it. Seeing a demon smile probably wasn't a nice sight.

"Not really. It was a way of stopping her from doing evil things. Evil things like…"

I pointed around us.

"You got the point."

She nodded.

"As long as we didn't do evil things she also wouldn't able to do evil things. Or something along the lines."

"But she did evil things!"

Nidalia was agitated. I can't say I blamed her.

"I died while still following the contract. But she… She."

I didn't know how to say it.

"She was angry. She blamed humans that killed me. She blamed other Gods. She just broke the contract. She even resurrected in body of a demon. With nearly none of my memories. I got back some of them back."

"What's this got with my tribe! We didn't do anything to you!"

"I know. I am sorry."

"No, you don't know shit! Look at around you! All of my tribe members are dead! Why do we have to suffer because you died!"

She was angry. While her argument was flawed, I couldn't talk back to her.

"Calamities are created to destroy. One of them was send to my previous world. When I got back to there, city I lived before was destroyed."

"Wha… I am… Sorry."

"When I killed it, I also became a Calamity. I don't exactly know what it means. What I know is I can't let her destroy other people's lives."

"You are…"

"This was all caused because I died. Since it was my fault, I have to fix it. I will kill all Calamities. I will find a way to stop my ancestor."

She thought for several minutes.

"Do you really think you can fix all this destruction! Look at around you!"

Her tone changed between sadness, anger and sympathy. She was angry to me and Lucy for destroying her tribe. She was also sad because of that reason. But she also bad about me. I was killed and my city was destroyed by a Calamity like hers.

"I have to."

"You nearly died just by killing one!"

"I am still alive. I will keep surviving. I will not stop until I fix her mistakes."

"Will you get revenge? From her?"

"Yes. She destroyed most of the world I was born. She took most of my memories. I have all the reasons to get revenge."

"Then I will help you. I don't care how you use me. As long as I could give her a good punch, I will follow you."

She wanted to join me? Very well. I opened my hand.

"This is a contract. When you sign it both of us will have to obey it. None of us can back down."

She gave it a short read before signing it.

(Clear 4th floor. Difficulty A. Cleared.)

(You cleared a floor by subjecting floor boss to yourself. Mission reward will be increased. Calculating…)

So I could also clear floors like this? It was a first. So that's what system talked about mission in this floor.
