Chapter 2 - Reborn

Damien shot up in his bed in the dull light of early morning, cold sweat clinging to his body. He looked around the room in panic, only to be greeted by drab, unfamiliar walls. 'Where... where am I', he thought to himself as his eyes darted around the foreign room.

'What happened... wasn't I having an X-ray?'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*FLASHBACK*

"Follow me Mr Richards.", said an attractive blonde nurse as she led him down a hall, and into a room at the end of the corridor.

"Lie down on the bed please, sir. ", said the nurse as she motioned towards a large machine, with what looked more like a table than a bed beneath it, "The doctor will start the procedure soon, please wait here patiently, until it's completed.", she said before walking out, after he had settled himself atop the bed.

He waited for a few minutes, before the machine whirred to life, with quite a loud sound. 'I didn't remember these being so loud.', he thought to himself.

Soon though, he noticed something was wrong, the X-ray had already been going on for 30 minutes. When he had, had X-rays in the past, it took at most 30 minutes before the procedure was completed. Now, he had suddenly begun to have a headache too.

Worried, he decided to discount the nurse's earlier words, and got up off the bed to leave the room. Immediately, his headache became worse, his head felt like it was splitting apart, his eyes began to blur and he felt uncomfortable all over. 'Something is definitely wrong', he thought to himself, 'I need to get help.'.

He burst out of the X-ray room, stumbling into the hallway before. Now he could hear faint sounds coming from an adjacent room. 'Go towards the room. Get help.', he thought incoherently. He confusedly staggered towards the sound, hands on his head as if to shield himself from the terrible pain.

He reached the door and clumsily barged into the room. The sound was very clear now, as loud moaning echoed around the room. Perhaps unable to hear his arrival over the sound of their own vigorous 'exercise', or perhaps too engrossed in their actions, the source of the sound - the attractive blonde nurse, and a man in a white lab coat - continued unrestrainedly in their own actions. Clearly they were unaware or possibly uncaring of the fact that as the nurse rose and fell, she repeatedly pushed a button on the console, the button that coincidentally controlled Damien's X-ray, with her large behind.

"F*ck!"

Just as Damien understood what had happened, he fell to the ground, with a thud. The sound of his voice, or maybe the sound as his body struck the ground, startled the couple, causing them to cease the action, which they had previously vigorously partaken in, as they stared in horror at Damien's body, blood leaking from his ears and pooling around him.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"F*uck!!! Those b*astards killed me because they wanted to have sex?!", Damien bellowed in rage, followed by a long tirade of furious expletives, "You- (the following content has been removed in order to protect readers)!".

His furious tirade, came to a sudden stop. 'Wait, aren't I dead? How am I here?! Where even am I?!'. Suddenly, he clutched his head in pain, as a large amount of information - the memories of the previous body - surged into his mind.

"Holy sh*t! I've reincarnated! Wait, is it reincarnated or transmigrated? I think it might b- Why am I thinking about that right now?! I'm not dead! I'm not dead! I'm not dead!"

He continued to chant I'm not dead a few more times before finally calming down.

'Okay, I'm not dead, but I'm still a child. Quite handsome from the looks of it, very smart, a photographic memory; very useful. But I'm an orphan... that's an okay start - but, where's my golden finger? System!'

'...'

"System?"

"..."

"Menu?! Stats? Inventory? Shop? Roulette? Anything..."

"..."

'Wow... I was lied to. So I don't get anything? I'm a child, an orphan to boot and now I don't even get a system?! What kind of sick jo-'

'Wait, what's that?', he thought to himself as he focused upon a particular memory that he happened to see. In this memory, a child sat - no, he sat - as he levitated things around him, seemingly finding it amusing, from the childish laughter that escaped his lips.

Excitement grasped Damien's entire being, as he came to an abrupt realisation. 'I have powers! I wasn't just abandoned to die! With this, I can be invincible, from those memories, this world is just like my own - no superpowers whatsoever - but now, I can rule the world!'

"Hahahahaha!" Loud, childish laughter escaped his lips, in place of the evil cackle he had envisioned, causing Damien to be inwardly embarrassed.

'Okay, maybe I can rule the world in the future, first I have to grow up. And I have to learn how to use my powers.'

As Damien had done in his memories, he stared at a single object - the lamp on the table beside his bed. And he began to imagine it rising into the air, as he did so... nothing happened.

'Why did nothing happen? I can clearly see that this body has powers, " he thought as he continuously replayed that memory in his head, 'I must not have focused enough. Let me try again.'

At that, Damien concentrated completely upon the lamp, his entire focus placed upon it. Once again, he imagined it rising into the air. This time, he felt something - some sort of energy, feeling like liquid - being pulled out of his body, seeming to come straight from his chest, and as this happened, the lamp slowly rose into the air. Damien was delighted.

"That wasn't so hard." As he said that, the feeling of liquid being pulled out of his body suddenly stopped, and the lamp wobbled before crashing back down onto the table, with a resounding *BANG*.

'I lost focus.'

In fact, despite being unknowing himself, Damien's feat was already incredibly impressive, it would be impossible for another child do this, without the insane magical talent of this body, not to mention after being enhanced by the golden drop of blood.

At this moment, the door was pushed open, and a somewhat plump middle-aged woman, with thick brown hair hanging in locks to her back and almond-brown eyes walked into the room.

"Damien, you're awake! Are you okay? How are you feeling?" she said as she rushed to his side.

Damien was surprised by this woman's sudden appearance and had to quickly search his memories for her name.

"I'm feeling great, Miss Price."

She gave him a dubious look.

"Are you sure? You looked like you were in a lot of pain, and you were screaming."

"What are you talking about Miss Price?", Damien asked confusedly.

"You don't remember? You had some sort of seizure. You were spasming and convulsing everywhere."

'I have epilepsy now?!', Damien rapidly searched his memories to try and find out what had happened to him. He saw himself, playing with the the blocks, the dazzling golden drop appearing from nowhere, he remembered the terrifying, horrible pain, after it had entered him. 'What is that?!'

His thoughts were interrupted however, when a burly man who looked to be in his early fifties walked into the room. He wore a black jumper, that had been rolled up to his elbows, revealing his large forearms, and his greying hair had been gelled into a stylish coiffure.

"Ah, Mr Bishop, Damien is awake. He says he's feeling fine."

"You're feeling better now Damien? Are you sure?"

Damien once again had to rapidly search his memories, for Mr Bishop.

'The director of the orphanage. Dennis Bishop. He looks young for his age, he should actually be in his mid-sixties. He's quite a kind person, it seems like he was an orphan himself, he even lived in this same orphanage.'

"I'm really fine, Mr Bishop, you and Miss Price don't need to worry about me."

"Good", said Mr Bishop, "but, we'll still be watching you for the next few days. Just to make sure you're safe.

"We'll leave now, so that you can rest, but come down soon. Breakfast 'll be ready. Come on now Julie, leave him to rest."

After that, he left shortly followed by Miss Price, who said before leaving, "Remember, if you need anything, call us immediately."

'I'm finally alone.', thought Damien to himself, 'but now I have to worry about whatever that golden drop was. It seems that this world isn't as normal as I thought. I have to learn to use my powers as fast as possible, and I need to improve them quickly, their too weak right now, even a minor lapse in concentration and they're useless.'

'But right now, I need to test the limits of my powers. According to my memories, I can only use my powers for two or three minutes, before becoming really tired, I need to test that out.'

Like before, he put all his focus on the lamp upon his bedside table, willing it to rise into the air, and slowly it began to levitate into the air. Now he kept it still in the air.

1 minute passed, Damien didn't feel anything.

2 minutes. Now Damien was surprised, usually at this point in time, if he hadn't already dropped the object, then he would feel extremely strained and tired, but not now.

5 minutes. Damien surprisingly still felt no strain. Unexpectedly, he felt it had become easier, as he had become used to using his power, so it began to require less focus, to continue.

10 minutes.

15 minutes.

Only at 25 minutes, did Damien begin to feel some sort of strain. Although, he now required a lot less focus to levitate the lamp, the feeling of energy flowing out of him had lessened, and began to slowly decrease. However, he still willed the lamp to float, determined to test the limits of his ability.

At 30 minutes, Damien felt exhausted, his mind was sluggish and he became unable to properly focus. The lamp fell back down to the table with a loud thump. Damien felt drained, but was extremely happy.

'That golden drop, must have massively improved my abilities. Originally, it should have killed this body, but because of my transmigration, I can full enjoy the improved ability.'

*GRUMBLE*

A loud rumbling sound came from his stomach.

"I need to eat, I'm starving!"
