"Would you believe me if I said she refuses to tell me," the Innkeeper said with tones of disbelief in his tone. "We can talk about anything, but as soon as we start to talk about her past she's suddenly 'unable to answer'. It really makes one even more curious."
Eclipse was taken aback by the answer, not expecting that.
"Wait, so you don't know at all? Didn't you have her checked out before hiring her?" she asked incredulously.
The Innkeeper only chuckled.
"Not really. She's extremely loyal and helpful as far as the work is concerned, so I didn't really look into her past. That would be an invasion of privacy - not that I'd be able to leave the Inn and go find out on my own anyway," he continued.
Everything he said was technically true. Even if he left the Inn, it's not like he could find out, nor had he really tried to find out about Mary's past.
Eclipse gave the Innkeeper a look of disbelief, and then that of respect.
