Time meant nothing now. There was no time since my baby was wrenched away from me.
Nothing even made sense anymore after Briella was kidnapped while I watched helplessly. There was a lot of crying and wailing. I vaguely remember Mom tugging me to bed and having me lie down. Noah’s aunts had been in to see me and Lorelei a few times as well, but I didn’t speak to any of them.
The sun rose and fell at least a few times, but I couldn’t be sure how many times exactly. I questioned how time could go on as if nothing was wrong. How could the sun go up when mine had been taken away from me?
“Zara, sweetheart, please. You need to eat something.”
I raised my hollow eyes up to my mother’s beautiful face, which was pinched with concern. If she had been in my place, she wouldn’t have let that monster take her precious daughter. The thought brought a fresh torrent of tears to my eyes.
