My heart broke as Noah and I locked gazes. I saw the anguish as he realized that I had chosen to go with Malphas, but I also saw the grim understanding in his eyes. He knew he couldn’t follow me and that I was doing it to save Briella. Our little girl had been without both her parents for far too long.
Even as I was enveloped in darkness, my wrist gripped in Malphas’ violent hand, I felt a strange sense of peace. Noah was alive. He had made it out of the gruesome battle, even though he and his warriors had been ambushed. I could breathe a little easier knowing that my mate had survived.
I was also anxious to see my baby and was hopeful that I seemed to be just another step forward in that direction. I knew it was foolish to trust Malphas, but I also knew from Niva that the dark sorcerer was a bit desperate, apparently needing my powers to achieve his goal.
